Jet City 2212 / 22H clean channel

Hello guys,

I wanted to share a solution that I came up with for adding a clean channel to my Jet City 2212.

The crunch channel can be set for a clean tone but is also has an amazing old school marshall tone with the gain at around 1 oclock.

In a gig or during a rehearsal you cannot have fast access to all 3 tones
crunch channel set clean
crunch channel set to old school overdrive
overdrive channel
And so you have to either forget about a clean tone or about the nice mid gain tone of the crunch channel.

Solution:
The crunch channel with the gain at around 1 oclock cleans up nicely with the guitar volume.
Instead I have ordered an EQ pedal (joyo jf-11) to rollback mid frequencies and clean up while retaining highs and lows.
I also ordered an AB loop switch.
loop A EQ + Chorus
loop B overdrive (bad monkey)

This means that with one stomp I go from clean with chorus to crunch (with or without the overdrive pedal) and I still have access to the amp's overdrive channel.

About the overdrive channel, I have bought another loop with amp channel switch (brightonion) which turns off the loop when on the overdrive channel.
I will put inside this loop the AB loop switch.

Solved all 3 sound accessible with 1 stomp no need to roll guitar volume or step on multiple pedals or go to the amp to change settings.

I hope this helps some people!

Re: Jet City 2212 / 22H clean channel

So you're using the EQ pedal as the opposite of a boost, i.e., a level cut, in order to get the amp to clean up?

I've wondered about doing that myself with single channel amps.

I also like the idea of chorusing the clean sound only and using the switcher to achieve that. I was actually just thinking about this the other day and mentally settled on the Boss MS-3 as the way to do it.

Nice idea and thx for sharing. This same trick should work for my Marshall Vintage Modern too :). Time to get the MXR EQ back on the board!

Re: Jet City 2212 / 22H clean channel

I used to have a VM but unfortunately didnt think of this at the time!

It would have solved one of the issues I had with it since you can really use both channels because of the extreme volume difference.
The other issues were that it was too loud for my bar gigs and for rehearsals. I found the high gain channel more useful for rock but too bright. And lastly the tone was very sensitive to what cab you put it on and I wouldnt carry my cab around!

I loved the low gain channel and miss it sometimes but frankly I am enjoying the JC much more even though it is less of an amp.

Good luck with the EQ!
Dont forget to add an AB loop if you want clean with added chorus or dirty with added OD pedal!

Thx man. Switching is not a problem, got a Joyo PXL for all my current needs.
The JC is a little beast of an amp and it CAN sound good clean but it needs a lot of work getting there. Delay and reverb are my friends in this case. I only just got an EQ pedal recently and been trying to figure out how to make it useful.
Now the VM is a whole other beast! It has an amazing clean channel. Really blew me away. Still discovering the amp finding the sweet spots but I don't find it too bright at all, Body and Bass knobs are really functional.
I'm using V30's and G12H100's in a modded Marshall 4x12 cab. Sounds amazing, big tight low end, plenty of mids to sit in the band mix and highs are articulate and present but never piercing. What cabs did you like?

Anyway, the JC is my home amp and the EQ thing will provide me with another tool to get inspired tone.

Re: Jet City 2212 / 22H clean channel

I used it with a 2x12 with Chinese greenbacks not much else. Maybe not all VM sound the same. JC for my gigs covers pretty much everything and I am actually looking for a smaller amp for bar gigs eg Blackstar HT-5

Re: Jet City 2212 / 22H clean channel

UPDATE

I received yesterday the joyo EQ and tried the above theory.
In short it works but the joyo EQ cannot reduce the output that much.
For instance my guitar vol on 5 (LP 50s wiring pearly gates neck) is less output than the joyo with all sliders all the way down.

Anyway I set all sliders all the way down except for the lowest and highest frequencies which are a bit above the bottom.

With the crunch channel set at 1 oclock and the joyo ON it is clean enough for my needs and sounds better than any other way of achieving clean tones (guitar volume or preamp gain set low).

Did you try it in the loop? It will have a greater effect there I would think.

Yes I bet it would have a greater effect as an EQ in the loop but my goal was to clean up the crunch channel so this would not work in the loop.
