Jet City 22H comes today

Reckless Abandon

New member
Right now I will have to play it through the celestion gt12-75 I have in my jcm 800 combo. I'll post what it sounds like later tonight.

On a side note if anyone has experience with these and has a better suggestion for a speaker i am open.

Re: Jet City 22H comes today

V30 types for tighter, more modern tones, or greenback types for more classic tones.

the Jet City amps really do prefer speakers which have ample mids.

I liked the jet city can that uses an eminence. Should have bought it.
So the 75 water may not be good? I also considered a warehouse reaper hp. It is basically a 50 watt version of a g12h-30

Loving this amp! Both channels are great. Channel 1 get pretty clean through a nice thick crunch. Channel 2 is high gain city. Remains smooth though. Only 20 watts do my ears do not hurt. Amp seems well balanced to me.

As for my celestion. Definitely not as thick as the stock cab with eminence speaker from the store. But I like the sound a lot!

I used to use my JCA with G12T-75s.

If you're jamming in your bedroom it's alright, but playing in a band situation is just a downer. To my ears, the 75s sound very nasal and whiny due to the lack of mids, and really cannot sound tight and well defined.

If you're mixing speakers, the 75 would be good with something that fills in the mids (I tried a G12T-75 + G12-65 in an X Pattern in a 4x12), and that can sound really good, but alone, the 75 just doesn't suit these amps IMO.

The Reaper HP would be a good choice. before getting my WGS Retro 30s, I was torn between those and the Reaper HPs.

I was looking for a more modern V30esque tone, so the Retros won out, but if you want that G12H sound, then the Reapers or Reaper HPs are your best bet.

Convoy,
I am not looking modern so I may order the reaper. I used to love how the gh12-30 sounded with my jcm 800. Will have to go in that combo unless I order the jet city cab. I think if my jcm combo was close back that speaker would sound better.

Re: Jet City 22H comes today

Congratulations!! I had a JCA2112RC, but it just didn't have enough gain for me. I need to go check one of the JCA22H's out.

Re: Jet City 22H comes today

i would personally go for some Eminence Legends.

the V12 series.

They are what Soldano use in their cabs and they really suit the voicing of the amps.

Re: Jet City 22H comes today

They do not sell the exact ones from the soldano cabs :(
The v12's are different. Not sure how much tho.

I've spoken with the guys at eminence and the only difference is the ohm rating.

The soldano ones are V1216 whilst the retail ones are v128s.

But that could just be a sales person trying to make sales :scratchch

However the V128s work amazingly well with my SLO clone

Toe,
Sounds like a good option then. I thought the soldano ones were 50 watt and the retail ones were rated at 120 watts? Seems like all eminence speakers rated really high on terms of wattage. I like them pushed a little

Im not entirely sure i dont think he mentioned the wattage.

I could actually see the jet city cabs having a pretty similar speaker in as theyre voiced for similar circuits.

Have you looked at the private jacks? I've heard nothing but good things about them and will most likely be getting my next cab with a private jack/governer combo

Not thought about private jacks. Governor I liked. A thicker v30 to my ears. Not what I want here but was real nice with my marshall

Thanks Speed. I'm watching that.

I have been researching. The jet city eminence is also based on the V128. For $150 I can get the can w/ speaker. So....
Reaper HP
Jet city cab w/ eminence
Eminence V128 to put in open back cab
???? Other suggestions.

You should try it with the T75 which you know is a speaker with no mids, after that experience see if that works for the amp or you need something totally diferent.

Personally I think a Emy GB128 is the best choice for small amps, it's 50 watts voiced like green back but with more balls and more power... plus it's like 70 bucks brand new.

Re: Jet City 22H comes today

I have a JCA22H also and love mine. I bought a cheap Blackstar 1/12 cab with a Celestian 70 eighty that i have been running with mine and REALLY like the combo. I have a 2/12 Fender Cab with G12H30's + several other speakers laying around but I like the 70/Eighty with the JCA 22 by far the best so far. Here is a quick clip with the JCA22H/ Blackstar 1/12 combo.

Take some advice and dump those POS factory power tubes as quick as you can they are NOT reliable!
I personally am running the TAD EL84 STR's in both my Jet City and my Zinky Blue Velvet and I REALLY like them. I will also recommend using Tung Sol RI 12AX7's in V1- and 2 on that rig. Changing the Power Tubes + dropping in just the pair of Tung Sols will fatten the amp up nicely.
I buy from Doug Preston over at http://www.dougstubes.com/?utm_sour...ium=email&mc_cid=6d06916c10&mc_eid=c397dd6c08

I'll give my experience with the JCA20H, which is just the crunch channel on the JCA22H. I tried it with the stock speaker, and it wasn't bad. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad. It was a little less defined than I would have liked, but that could have been the stock tubes. I suspect it was the speaker, though.

I came home and ran it through two Governors, and I got the same feeling out of the cab as I did with the Distortion in my Les Paul. There was too much piercing in the upper mid department. The clarity was impeccable. You could get a touch of breakup, but every crunch was completely present in the upper mids. The problem was that that's all there was.

I finally swapped out one of the two Governors for a Wizard, and that made all the difference in the world. It filled out the sound, added some bass, and made the crunch much more organic. It wasn't a stabbing, piercing sound anymore. It was full and well-defined. It took some of the focus away from that narrow frequency band, but it still maintained plenty of clarity. It packs a thick, tight crunch now, but with plenty of fullness.

So that's where I am now, and the only thing I ever consider doing is adding a second 2x12 with Greenbacks. But I've been thinking about that for years and haven't done anything about it. I doubt it'll happen soon, because I really don't think there's a big hole in my tone due to the cab and speakers. I actually think it's probably one of the biggest strengths of my rig.

I actually found my SLO clone to work well with a T75 when i was using the BKP aftermath as the SLO has a bucketload of mids and so did the pickup. So the relaxed mids of the T75 worked out very nicely indeed
