Jimmie Vaughan Strat

I got a new guitar last summer: RG-2570. I am happy with it. However, i would like to have a second guitar: more vintage tone, and easier to tune. This way i can switch from half-step down to standard and what not. My friend, quencho092, suggested the jimmie vaughan strat. It looks like a good guitar, i'll try it out somewhere. I was looking at some of the specs and it looks great, except i don't know about the pickups. They are:2 Tex-Mex™ Calibrated, Overwound, Single-Coil Strat Pickups (Neck and Middle),
1 Tex-Mex “Hot Bridge” Single-Coil Strat Pickup (Bridge). I've never heard of these. Please post any opinions on the guitar or the pickups. Thank you.

Re: Jimmie Vaughan Strat

I hear they are similar to the Texas Specials. Check the fender site, sometimes they have sound bites of their guitars(sometimes lol).

Re: Jimmie Vaughan Strat

I heard the sound bite on their site, it was pretty good. are they worth keeping on or is it better to change them? I'm looking for a more vintage tone, deep, and creamy. Mainly for cleans, but for a rrrreal smooth distortion too.

see other post in pickup room...great cleans, pretty smooth on the crunch side, unless you are looking for something specific there is NO NEED to change the pickups, very vintage sounding, Jimmy Vaughan REALLY does use them, and IMO they sound NOTHING like Texas Specials.

Re: Jimmie Vaughan Strat

If they sound that good, give it a try my brotha!

If not i recommend texas hots ant I's....those are MAC!!

Re: Jimmie Vaughan Strat

Tho hot, the Tex Mexs are still quite vintagy, and have less mid growl as the Tex Specs. Still quite transparent and more highs. I like the Tex Specs tho - they have a great sound when you lower them.
