Jimmy Page No. 1 Les Paul (With New Info!)

Hey guys, I have here a complete history and examination of his Number One 1959 Gibson Les Paul. A lot of the info comes from Edwin Wilson of the Gibson Custom Shop, who examined the guitar first hand and interviewed Jimmy about the instrument personally. Additionally, there are new revelations from Joe Walsh, who sold Jimmy the Les Paul, from an interview with Guitar World Magazine published just this month...I literally got the magazine in the mail yesterday so this scoop is as fresh as it gets! Here's the link, check it out!

Hope you all enjoy it!

Don't mess with me man! How much of a crazy person would I be writing a blog about a guy that was entirely fictional. I'd be doing it from a very cozy padded room that's for sure! haha

Nice info. I didn't really know much about his famous Paul until I read that.

I always have highly preferred his tone when he was playing the Tele, but there is no denying that the Paul is a badass and iconic guitar with a lot of history.

interesting about the history of pickup swaps. I may not dig the feel of my '71 SG, but the old T Tops do sound great. Real neat mid range crunch tone to them. I've always thought about putting tose pickups in the right LP or LP clone down the road

Hehehehe, well, since you fixed the link, I will point out the original one didnt work and said, ironically, "Page doesn't exist". :friday:

After hearing about the swap I was tempted to look into getting a T-Top for the bridge position of my Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro. Any thoughts, Pros/Cons to doing such a thing?

TBH I think the regular Duncan 59 gets pretty close to Jimmys classic tone, and the Seth Lover even closer. If you already have one of those I wouldn't bother with the T-Top.

Re: Jimmy Page No. 1 Les Paul (With New Info!)

They say it was a custom wound Seymour Duncan. Anyone know what specs that may be?

At User Group Day, we saw Maricela Juarez's 3 ring binder full of the specs on every notable player's custom pickups. Now, I kinda wish I'd had her simply make the Jimmy Page or Angus Young pickup as my UGD pickup. The info was right there in her book!

PS - be careful that you aren't using copyrighted material on your JP site.

Ughhh, that is a shame! I'd love to have known the specs too!

Re: Jimmy Page No. 1 Les Paul (With New Info!)

Can anyone tell me the sonic differences between a T-Top vs. a PAF style humbucker?

T-Tops are weaker and brighter, with less mids
PAFs have more grunt and low end/mids

T-Tops are essentially underwound PAFs, so they aren't completely different

I always wondered, thanks!
