Bob's a good dude....
He'll talk your ear off....but it's very much an educational thing. The guy know just about everything there is to know about amps and how they typically are (does the bias run hopt, cold, etc).
He asks the questions that should be asked about what you're looking for tonally from the amp and what you want it to sound like.
I've done business with him twice; once for an entire set on a Blues Jr. that became my #1. If I had the cash I'd probably go across the board for another 3 amps with him. The only exception being the Deluxe Reverb that came with NOS Sylvanias.
...I'd say worth the hype.

I'm with Skarekrough, worth the hype. The JJ's are SO much better than regular sovteks/groove tubes. I put three WORN OUT 12ax7's in my buddies blues junior and him, my dad, and my SISTER who doesn't even play guitar, thought it sounded better. I retubed my amp completely with JJ's. The recto is different sounding than the sovtek and provides more compressions. The EL84's sound MUCH warmer as do the 12AX7's and they also have more gain/volume. I've ran Mesas, JJ's, and Groove Tube Sovteks and the JJ's win hands down. I remember that Chip likes the Electro Harmonix tubes which are the High end Sovteks Bob said. When I ordered my 84's Bob asked me how early I wanted my breakup, etc and sent me the perfect tubes.

. People seem to be crazy about their stuff. My rectoverb came with stock Mesa tubes all around, which I hear are pretty low quality Chinese tubes, so I'm considering a full tube swap after Christmas.Re: JJ/Eurotubes, worth the hype?
Great service and yes, the tubes improved the tone of my amps. Especially my PV Classic 30. Warmer, crunchier, smoother and bigger sounding.
Put em in my Carvin Mts too and again had good results. I will use em for all my tube needs. PLUS, The price is great too.

Bob asks all the right questions & gets a set of awesome tubes in your hand, just the way you want'em. Like Skarekrough, a full set for my Blues Jr makes that little amp sing. My Bassman RI is next. Good luck.

I might as well chime in...
I have a major tube addiction, my wife says it borders on a fetish. I love tubes, especially good ones.
That being said, JJs are for me, and buying them from Bob at Eurotubes is the way to go. Bob is a great guy, won't steer you wrong, and knows what customer service is all about. I've moved away from using my expensive NOS and vintage tubes to using JJs in almost every posistion... the only non-JJ tube left in my amp is a very special Mullard I'm running in the input. If that tube goes, it'll be replaced with a JJ... they really are great tubes.
So yeah, do it up man.

IMO, warmer and bigger are the attributes of JJ tubes. Seems like all their tubes have sweeter (read "timid") highs, but are great tubes. Great for Marshall style amp, not so great for Fender style.
Im using JJ E34L in my Laney, and JJ 12AX7 in V2 and V3 (balanced EH in PI and Mullard 7025 in V1). I've used JJ EL84s too and they are great.

They were dark and lifeless in my Orange, didn't fair much better in my Peavey and the 12AX7 in somewhat noisy in my mic pre. I say overhyped but they weren't pricey and they certainly get enough good reviews that they are worthtrying. So far I have had found Svets to be my choice for power tubes and an asst. of others for pre's.

Sorry guys, but they aren't as magnificent as everyone claims they are. I guess it really depends on the amp. My Hughes & Kettner Triamp sounded good stock, but when I changed the original Ruby tubes to JJ ECC83S tubes, it became dull. The tone wasn't exceptionally rich or anything and the amp was still noisy. The best thing I did was change the v1 to a GT 12AX7M. Now that tube was well worth the money!
As for EL-34 power tubes, GJ had it right the first time: Svetlana "Winged C". They sound great to my ears, much better than the JJs.
For an amp that's really harsh stock and needs to be tamed, JJs might be the ticket, but the loss of gain, too dark of a tone just wasn't working for me or my amps at all. I'll be sticking to either NOS or 9th gen chinese from now on.

Yeah, I hated the pre's, expecially for gain. Not kidding at all, it HALVED my gain! And it made the tone dull and lifeless...I like EH tubes, FWIW.
