Johnny Jr Project/Build

Had a friend make me a Ventures II/Johnny Ramone style body routed and drilled ala a Junior hence Johnny Jr.

Alder body and a maple neck with some kind of rosewood adjacent fretboard.

It's been sitting here for a while mostly out of laziness but I decided to start on it. Shouldn't take a whole lot to put it together. Doing a very rat rod finish out on it. Oil finish on the neck with a painted headstock and a Lil Daddy Roth rattlebomb finish. Probably 2k clear but maybe lacquer we'll see?

Well here it is naked anyways

well since I have you all on the edge of your seats lol

A bit of an update

Have a set of Wilkinson white button tuners, a good nut blank and a GFS P90 that I found in the parts bin. Using 500k pots and a .022 OD cap, a Switchcraft jack and Planet Waves strap pins. I also have a Faber compensated tailpiece that I am hoping will work, posts are offset enough I might use a regular tailpiece, I also have a Wilkinson wraparound here if I need it.

Just need a little more finishing work on it but you can get the general idea. I used Lil Daddy Roth Avalanche White base and Jazz Berry Pink Vunderbomb with Silver Flake as well.

You got some pretty wood there young man

How did you do the burst? I know there are few different techniques people use

Well it's very sophisticated the way I do it.

I see what paint I have left and I keep going til I run out :ROFLMAO:

I thought I had more of the Jazz Berry but it was a mostly an empty can. So I did the sides and let that spray over the top edges, then I used the little I had left to do the burst worthy of the finest of Sears & Roebuck bursts. It was a fairly tight spray pattern so I just sprayed towards the outer edge and it worked fairly well.

I got it playing pretty well, the nut I wanted to use had a crack in it so I am just using a cheapy off something I probably upgraded at some point, I am sure I will get something better.

The GFS P90 is a little brighter than I remembered, or this guitar is very bright, IDK yet.

Ended up using a .047 cap, has more roll off than I'll ever use so maybe I'll put a .022 in it eventually. For now I just have to play and see what needs tweaking but it's not bad at all.

Just a quick clip for yo Mama

Too much? I can do more if it's not 🍑

A few little details added - the backplate and the truss rod cover were cut from an old Tele Custom guard that was all kinds of screwed up

Re-use/Recycle fellas
