Johnson Amps

Is this the same people who make the cheap Johnson guitars? I'm talking about that high dollar (high dollar for the Johnson name) Millinneum amp they had in Musicians Friend awhile back. I got a buddy who is wanting to trade me one and I can't find squat, other than the always 10+ raving reviews from Harmony central.

It's a 2x12 and looks more complicated than it may be worth with all the screens and knobs. It has 2 Celestion Vintage 30's, which he said was stock. It's a super clean amp and hasnt been drug around and beat up. Everything looks like it worked.

What's it's worth? I mean not top ollar but real money. Ebay won't let me do completed searches since I'm no longer a member.

Re: Johnson Amps

Not the same company. Johnson made great modeling amps in the 90s (Adrian Belew still uses them), but are hard to find now. It was owned by the same company that owns Digitech, but it was very nice stuff. I owned a J-Station, which was an early POD clone.

Re: Johnson Amps

I have a JM150. One of the best sounding modeling amps out there to my ear. The block-based effect layout is pretty nice. I don't think it's the same company as the guitars-- they got bought by Harmon and then discontinued. The effects, especially the reverb, chorus and flangers are really nice. The MKIIC+, Twin and HotRod Marshall models are very tasty.

I'd venture to guesstimate the value at around $500... of course with low demand it wouldn't surprise me to see one go for 3 bills or trade.

EDIT: Try going into edit mode and tweaking all the knobs -- they're rotary encoders and if they get borked they only scroll in one direction no matter how you turn 'em.

Re: Johnson Amps

id say they can go for 300-600. Ive been looking for a clean head version for some time.

Re: Johnson Amps

He has been trying to get $200 for it and no takers, but he doesn't use the net and has just been asking around. I think the biggest thing that's hurting it is the "Johnson" name. 99% of people think it's another cheap Johnson P.o.S.

I don't really need it, but I may grab it for $200 if no one else does in a few days just to play around with it.

Re: Johnson Amps

Well, if you have a bit of patience to get into it, at that price I'd go for it. It's a great amp for messing around at home in that you can get some awesome stereo sounds that will keep you amused for hours.

Re: Johnson Amps

Lucid...if you tell people that you have a "Johnson Modeler" at home, someone might think you are light in the loafers!

Re: Johnson Amps

The company was owned by digitech. They were one of the first modeling amps and came out shortly after Line 6. I played one at a music store, I really liked it, but for $1400 it was a bit pricey. The interface was alot more user friendly than its competitor, the Line 6 AX-2, but alot of people liked the tone of the AX-2 better. Eventually Line 6 expanded their to offer more amplifiers, and Johnson closed up shop
