WATCH OUT FOR THEM GUYS!! I built my 2204 from a Metro kit. There are a few knowledgeable fella's over there,But way to many screwballs dishing out half baked erroneous information.:argh: The Hoffman board is a much better source of amp knowledge. If you post something stupid over there...You will be Flamed.:firedevil

Really? Last year around this time I frequented those boards while I was building my 68 plexi replica. The only thing I'd have to say is that they convinced me I'd be able to build the plexi having never built an amp before in my life. Almost one year, three loud BANGS! resulting in blown fuses, one instance of 120VAC across my chest later, I've got a non-working plexi kit which is currently in the hands of Tim Caswell over at studio electronics to fix and do the famed Stock #39 Marshall mod to it. I dont regret buying the amp, and it was fun to build, but if you woulda told me I wouldnt get the chance to play it for another year after, things would be different!

Shoulda went with the 5E3 kit from Bruce!

Damn, that's such a bummer. Sure hope the 120VAC didn't do any permanent damage!

+1 on the Hoffman Amps board, except I don't see flaming going on there. They seem very willing to help you as long as you are working to help yourself with research (i.e. search function, etc.) and thinking before you ask a question.

Hmmm...I've found them to be quite the opposite: pleasant, open and knowledgable. Except for a missed wire or two (stupid wiring mistake that was my fault), I was able to build a Metro Plexi kit with virtually no hassles.

Many people praise Metro's customer support. George has great product's and I don't doubt he does his best to keep his customers happy. (I would still do business with him ) But my experience was less than Stella. 1st) my kit came missing 2 resistors. I had a 820 ohm instead of a 82k and a 100k instead of a 10k. No biggie, I emailed George and he sent them out the next day. Next problem was my kit came with a layout for a 2203 but not a 2204? I went on the metro forum board and asked about this? Some jerk chimed in and said don't worry it's the same exact build...:duh: :nono: Well NO It's NOT! Good thing I had a 2204 schematic and was able to figure it out myself.The 2204 has different value input resistor and a different style rectifier bridge. To further complicate things I was installing this in a Laney. I don't blame them for not being familiar with Laney amps, But IMO you shouldn't call yourself a amp tech if all you know is Marshall's. A true amp tech understands electronics regardless of what the nameplate says. It's like a Auto mechanic stating he can only fix Chevy's Don't know nothing about Ford's. I posted pics and voltage's on the metro board to see if someone knew why my amp wasn't working. One moron chimed in and claimed I should have used Zoso caps? Thanks! that was helpful.:argh:

How much would it cost to buy the parts and chassis for a JTM45 head? I would love to tackle a project like this...I need a EL34 tube head...would rather not buy an old Marshall..et cetera...

If your Frugal minded and source parts from different vendors? I'm guessing you could build one for well under a Grand! I built my 2204 for around $500.
My father made my head cab. for me so (-$200) I shopped around for good deals on my Iron,Pots and switches.

Holy crap! I'd buy the JTM 45 kit for what you get and the price...just to have it all arrive at once. That would be so sweet...DIY amplification.

This place gives me the best, yet worst ideas of what to do with my money.
