Judas Priest Live Guitar tone

I just pulled out my Meltdown album after about 3-4 years, and now I know why. First Ripper Owens sucks, but mostly the guitar tones on that album are HORRIBLE.

They sounded real buzzy and harsh, and at the same time mushy and muddy , if that makes sense. I couldnt make out what htey were playing at times.

Anyone know what they used,so I dont' ever buy it? HAHAHA!

probably just the same stuff theyve been using since painkiller, but on the ripper albums i get the impression they were trying to sound more modern or something

If you go to the website . . . in the videos section it has guitar features from the Ripper era . . . Shows some of the gear. My impression is actually that most of it was mixing.

From what I could find out, they seem to be using the same Marshall heads, preamps, and occasional Crate just as they've done for Angel of Retribution (which sounds great). I know their live tone is wicked tho, it's mostly just Marshall preamps with Marshall power-amps.
