Hello all (and the knowledgable Lew) ,
I have the strat mentioned in the header...ice pick sounding bridge p/up and all. It sounds like no other (new) strat I've ever played. It doesn't have that "breakup" that newer strats have & quite frankly I haven't played a custom shop strat that I have found as satisfying as mine. Lew(or anyone else)....do you happen to have any "JV" strats? I'm dying to know if mine/yours has one of those "320 gram" trems or more of a vintage type one. The first series was unveiled in spring '82 & my neck is dated summer of 82. I thought my bridge might be American because I know USA was sending certain parts over. The body is slighly heavier than an average strat but nowhere the lug weight of the USA lates 70 early eighties "Dan Smith" USA Strats. The p/ups are the rare USA "redback" alnico w/the "82" stamp on the back. This is really a sweet strat....and I highly recommend anyone who's looking for a custom shop strat or tele to consider researching & finding a "JV" serial Fender. I had 1300.00 in my pocket to find a used custom shop strat because I wanted a strat. After researching the living hell out of strats....I found this one & rolled the dice & spent 1200.00 on it...worth every penny. Nowhere does it say squire nor is the "export" stamp anywhere on the body. The reason for my post is that a buddy of mine is a serious collector & owns an actual '62. When he had my guitar doing a setup he told me "you could close your eyes & not know the difference between my '62 & this one" The pickuos in the real '62 were sweeter....I've played & heard the axe & it's unbelievably awesome but I didn't have the chance to shoot the two out. I took his word for it. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to get it closer to the real deal.....trem? p/ups? I don't know if those redback 82's are worth a crap or not....yes it sounds great but not as good as that '62. Maybe I should just leave it alone?
thanks
