Just an idea

I've been pondering this for quite awhile. I live in Tokyo and have access to hundreds of second-hand stores that have a myriad of Japanese and American (et al) effects pedals. I figured I'd just throw it out there that if there's something specific you're looking for, I'll see if I can find it.

Keep in mind, though, that I have a family, job (USAF), and a whole host of other responsibilities and, accordingly, will spend what time I can finding stuff. But, as I've been surfing this forum since around 2005 (I think. I know the site experienced a crash and reset between then and now. I don't get on and post very often, if my post count is any indication), I've seen many of my forum bros looking for Japanese gear, or at least stuff I see fairly often (Ibanez TS-9/808, Maxon clones, Japanese originals, etc.) that may not be so easy to come by in the CONUS.

Note: I was just thinking about price and shipping and whatnot. The way I figure, I'll just ask for cost plus whatever shipping cost (if there is any). Money holds little sway over my mind, so I'm not looking for profit or benefit or anything like that. I just want to hook a brother up with some sweet gear.

Cheers! :beer chug:

Awesome!

I am interested in any weird shin ei (or companies they licensed circuits to) fuzzes, super fuzzes, and the like!

Also Edwards and grassroots axes.

Thanks

I can't really think of anything in particular I'm after, but I just wanted to say that that's a really cool offer. Very good of you, man.

Now go find me a nice lefty MIJ Jag. :D

Kam, if I found a lefty MIJ Jag, I'd buy it for myself. We lefties have to take what we can find! LOL!

Re: Just an idea

I'm just going to stick with the small stuff for now (pedals, etc.) as guitars are a bit more logistically challenging when shipping from overseas. Not only that, but I'd very much hate to see something get broken in transit. I work in Air Transportation, so I know what kind of crap can happen. Pedals and pickups are much heartier fellows when it comes to being put in a box.

+1 on all of that. Except the Jag

Re: Just an idea

I'm curious if you see very many old Aria Pro II Strats from the early to mid 80s. I remember looking at catalogs and they had some wild finishes, but few ever made it to the states.

I still have my first axe, an Aria RS Classic. Was originally a pearl with SSS guitar with a Vtrem. Now it's a single hum Bengal with a Kahler Killer trem LOL! And it was a long road getting there, multiple hacks and paint jobs LOL!

I'm not sure if I want you to get one for me, but I'm curious if they are to be found over there.

Thanks.

One of the Richie Kotzen Teles would be amazing. Sadly, I be po. So poor I can't even finish the word.

Re: Just an idea

That's really cool of you, man! That's a good guy right there...

I've been looking for a Sobbat DB-2 Drivebreaker pedal, but they're Japan only and not alot of places outside Japan can get them... let me know if you happen to see one!

Re: Just an idea *update*

So, I finally got the chance to get off base. Here are some pics I took at a local second hand shop. I thought I'd give y'all an idea what there is around here. All prices shown are in Yen. The rule of thumb we use is that if the price is (for example) 26000 Yen, then you just move the decimal point two places to the left and you have a ballpark figure of $260.00. Of course, the conversion rate isn't 100:1 anymore but it's roundabout. I think the exchange rate right now is 77 Yen to 1 Dollar.

Instead of bogging down the forum with a bunch of pics, I figure y'all can simply go to my flickr site and look at them there. You'll see the pics I took today and a bunch of sh it I've saved to post on FARK.com. Please let me know if you can't get to the site. I'm still figuring out the public/private settings. Cheers!

Re: Just an idea

First, way cool of you to be offering this. I see you're not wishing to send guitars, but are my eyes deceiving me? Are these LP clones priced around $200??

Re: Just an idea

It is ironic how much changes in 20 or 30 years. We used to resent "Made in Japan" on guitars or anything. Now those guitars make me weak in the knees. When I see MIJ on a product I think, "OOh! Quality!"

Re: Just an idea

Yeah, those are a couple of Burnys and a Greco. I think Burny (at some point) was licsensed by Gibson (citation needed). My favorites, though, are Tokai. They are better built than some of the big brand stuff. If there is one thing I've learned in my 4 years here so far is that the Japanese truly believe that if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well.
