Just Bought A DS-1 To Drive My El Diablo

Re: Just Bought A DS-1 To Drive My El Diablo

Should this be 10 ?

No, zero. It's a little deceiving though since those tone controls go from -15 to +15 so essentially my mids are left alone. I will bump them up from time to time depending on what sort of tone I'm going for, especially traditional Stratty stuff. But that's usually a totally different setup. But for higher gain metal stuff that seems to be a decent spot for playing alone. Things change again though when in a mix and competing with another guitar, bass and drums. Those situations tend to call for more mids as well.

great stuff. man you guys really know how this stuff works. the truth is, and the more i learn about tone i realize this, that you just have to crank the amps.

the 30watt mode seems to sound better at lower volumes, but i seem to get slightly less gain. it sounds a little sweeter to me, but not as overdriven. i prefer the 60 watt mode, but man this amp is loud as hell. i thought my mesa was loud, but the 10 watts difference between this and the mesa seems evident. what a loud friggin amp.

with the extension cab, i don't think i'll ever need much more. i do still think that the overdrive pedal will help in 30 watt mode so i'm going to give it a try and post a sample for you guys to comment on. hopefully i'm getting closer to good tone. thanks for the help everyone

Re: Just Bought A DS-1 To Drive My El Diablo

Care to share any settings you're using and describe what sort of sound you're getting?

Mine's currently set-up for a pretty crunchy gain which is great for rhythm stuff:

Preamp gain = 6
Preamp vol = 2.5

Tube contour = 5

Bass = 9
Mids = 0
Treble = 3

Global attack level = 5

Master vol = 4-5

Mine is actually about the same, more preamp volume, less mids, and tube contour around 9o clock if im doing metal stuff. But what you have there is about what im using other times.

do you guys have any clips of your el diabos?

Re: Just Bought A DS-1 To Drive My El Diablo

I don't. Nor do I currently have any real good way of recording. Although I've been considering either a used laptop or some sort of digital recorder that I can take downstairs where I jam, record the clips, then bring them upstairs to the computer for editing. Although I have a feeling that would ultimately end up collecting dust just like my old Yamaha 4-track I swore I'd use all the time. :rolleyes:

Re: Just Bought A DS-1 To Drive My El Diablo

you guys were right about the volume though. i can use less gain the more i crank the volume. now i can really hear what you are talking about. it's like those power tubes start pumping gain, so you can back off the distortion. i used to just crank the amp and the gain, but i'm starting to see how it works how. all i have to do now is get a good tone at low volumes. i think i'm set for a live situation though

Glad to hear it man. There is lots of wisdom on this site and I've benefitted greatly from listening to more than one of the people on this site. Most are very clued in on where it's at and where it's not. Try not to get discouraged and keep that chin up.

Re: Just Bought A DS-1 To Drive My El Diablo

Just out of curiosity, have you tried the DS-1 with the Diablo yet? I'm curious because I'm now wondering what a Tube Screamer may sound like with this amp.

Re: Just Bought A DS-1 To Drive My El Diablo

not yet. it was just delivered last night, but tonight i'm going to check it out. i did try my jeckle and hyde pedal and it sounded awesome. the el diablo seems to like pedals a lot more than my marshall.
