Just bought the Bonamassa Wah

Re: Just bought the Bonamassa Wah

I had the Clyde Deluxe and just thought it sucked, plus too many options. Wahs should be simple.
My 95Q replaced my Fulltone, Teece Wizard, and Budda.
The Bonamassa is nice but to me sounds like any other Crybabay in a band setting. The Cantrell is better but in the end, the Crybaby 95Q is so easy to use, I may stick to it.

why you think the cantrell is better?? Im trying to find the right wah for me and Im looking at the Bonamassa and the cantrell. Havent played either yet. the cantrell is darker right??

Yeah, I've put my JB set on my board. I also got one of those Boss DD-7's and a Harmonist that I like running in the FX loop.

Re: Just bought the Bonamassa Wah

How does the JB compare with the Clyde Deluxe ?
Could you get the Clyde to copy its tone ?

Re: Just bought the Bonamassa Wah

The Zakk Wylde wah is better than the Bonamassa wah and Cantrell wah, to me personally. But, that is why they make so many wahs....something for each of us! :) :) :)

^But you use a 95Q right? Or have you changed your mind yet again what your favorite gear is for the hour?

Zakk wah should be here by next week. I tried it at Sam Ash and love it. I will always hold onto the 95Q in case I ever go back. :)

Re: Just bought the Bonamassa Wah

I like the look and sound of the Dunlop FF's, and I use the blue Jimi version on my board. The bummer isn't the size, but the 9 volt battery requirement.
I've always got to remember to unplug the cable. I've accidentally drained quite a few batteries because of that. Even the new Bonamassa Fuzz is battery only.

Voodoo Labs has some cable for powering pedals that has the plug for a 9V battery in one side and the typical barrel for your power brick.

I've used that trick with some germanium fuzzes as well with other vintage units that hadn't the DC jack, just filling a bit the lower side of the pedal's case (where it touches the bottom plate), to don't compress the wire when closing the cover.
No more battery thriller!.

Yeah, Lex666 sent me a bunch of Voodoo power cables last week. I need to see how the FF's sound with DC instead of batteries. I know I won't be tampering with the enclosures though. I'll probably wedge a piece of cardboard in there so the cable doesn't get crushed.

As for the JB Wah and FF. I love them. Both are keepers.
Out of my 3 Fuzz Face pedals, I like the Jimi and JB. The Eric Johnson has a lot of gain, but not quite the same definition in the notes that the other two have.

Re: Just bought the Bonamassa Wah

The Joe Wah sounds pretty good but the Z-45 sounds fatter and thicker. Using a wah, I want the notes to jump off the fretboard and have girth. Nothing does that like the Zakk, baybay!!!

Re: Just bought the Bonamassa Wah

Tone is relative to each player.
To me the real stuff (nowadays) is the Real MCoy RMC4 Picture Wah. This one nails the tone. period.

Re: Just bought the Bonamassa Wah

The JB wah looks solid ...

the interior wiring seems like its being handwired
I'm currently looking for a wah, my no.1 in the list is a CAE wah.
But since this JB wah came along, I could consider as well

thanks

Re: Just bought the Bonamassa Wah

The Bonamassa is incredible. I checked it out again today. Perfect sweep and rich, sweet tone. I sold my Clyde Deluxe. I never saw the need for 3 different wah tones, just stick with one, makes life as a gigging guitarist much simpler. Otherwise, do the CAE MC404, sounds better than the Clyde.
That said, the Bonamassa is darn near perfect. The Cantrell and Wylde are also incredible.

Re: Just bought the Bonamassa Wah

I don't think you can find a better wah.......but I had to ditch it because of no gain adjustments.
