Just came up with a custom set of string 10 13.5 18w 24 32 44

A while back I bought a pack of the D'addario balanced tension set strings and gave a review of them awhile back. Well now I think i've come up with what a true set of 10s should feel like (to me at least).

These are the gauges
10
13.5
18w
24w
32w
44w

All the strings feel very consistent when bending and chording. I noticed playing was smoother and easier. I just installed them two days ago and used them in a band practice session and personal practice session and so far so good. The guitar in question has a Floyd also. Ill report a bit more in a couple days.

Hmm - I'm personally not so concerned on having balanced tensions on my guitars. I'm thinking at the moment with no compression the high E in standard .010 gauges is slightly weak, so I thought about subbing a .0105 or .011 for the high e to see what the response is.

I'm using staggered single coils and usually play clean. I know most people on the forum use a bit of gain, so a different situation.

On a hard tail your results may vary as for feel tension wise along with scale length. Go and buy a couple singles and try it. My problem now is I have to buy singles for all six strings and not a prepackaged set unless I get an endorsement deal from someone.

I've been on the same path. Just tried the balanced tension .009 set and I definitely like where they are going but I also wanna tweak it a bit. Your selections look like what I'd do if I played .010's. I'm also a fan of wound G strings, even with flat magnet pickups, they just sound better to me. Don't think I could get a wound G small enough to have the same tension as a .009 E though.

the problem with balanced set is that you only feel it on the standard tuning. for alternative tuning user like me, I still need to buy a few different gauge set only for one guitar. d'oh
