Just got a 1986 Laney Pro Tube 50 ( clips)

Re: Just got a 1986 Laney Pro Tube 50 ( clips)

They are worth messing with for sure. I run mine attenuated in the low input jack. Master on 10 and pre on 6 or 7. I have to check the EQ points, it is cool to mess with the mid, bass, and treble boost pull pots, I think the mid boost is the most dramatic and usually have it between 1 and three with the boost on, it is a very noticable difference pushed in vs out. With none of the pots pulled you can dime the eq and it still sounds good.

I have messed with pre amp tubes a bit, I don't like this head with brighter tubes like EH. I think it really sings with a darker tube like a JJ or GT 12AX7m. I am sure with volume cap messing you could easily tweak the voicing a bit..

Seems like they're still voiced that way, as I dont like my GH50L with EH/bright tubes. Sweeter tone with JJ, but I have a Mullard 7025 in V1.... SHWEEETT TOOB!!!

I just put a .005 cap on the master volume yesterday, while subtle it adds lower mids w/o taking away any highs. I like what it did.

I wonder how close the new Laney's are as compared to the AOR line. It seems like Laney is still a bit under the radar despite the tones they keep delivering with.

Sounds very nice, I have a Duncan Booster and it gets extremely brown when used with it.
