Just got a Martin for my Birthday

My wife got me the Martin D-15 Limited Addition (from Musician's Friend) for my B-Day. Man what a nice present. I've been spending all my money on electrics over the last 15 years and have played the same Fender Gemini II acoustic that I bought used for $75 back in High School. Boy the tone difference is like night and day between that and this Martin. This thing just sings.

Does anybody else have one of these? I really love it. The only thing that worries me is this thin finish. If anybody has one I'd like to hear how the finish has held up and if they have have any problems with the wood reacting to the change in temperatures?

I've got the regular D-15 with the mahogany top. The guitar has a bit of a delicate feel to it, but I think that's why it sounds so damn good. I love it. It's a killer US_made Martin for less than 600 bucks. Hard to beat that deal. I like the darker tone it has. Fantastic stuff. I'm guessing yours has a bit brighter tone with that top.

I'm curious about how it's setup, because Martins are notorious for leaving the final setup to a luthier. If she bought it new, fill out the warrantee card, and you're entitled to one free setup by an authorized Martin repair station. Take advantage of it, so it plays like butter. It took me several setups till I got my Martin playing killer.

Re: Just got a Martin for my Birthday

It seems to have a fairly balanced tone, not too bright but not too deep. Just perfect for what I wanted. The top does seem kind of delicate but no shipping damage anywhere so I am real happy about that. I'll just have to baby this one I guess. (never had to worry about this kind of stuff with the Gemini II)

The set-up is pretty nice actually but there is something about the action on the high E that could use a little improvment. I'll definitely take advantage of the free set-up. I didn't see it in the paprwork but I assume it must mention it in there.

i too have a regular d-15 (the special edition came out after i got mine) and really love it. mine was set up ok, got my free setup, which got totally destoroyed over the summer (i live within 250 ft of the beach all summer) even tho i left the guitar in the case when i wasnt playin. Although mine needs another setup, it still sounds amazing. i really like the d-15's
