Just got a Vox AD120VTx, some questions

Hey guys, I just spent 2 hours playing through this Vox over at GC with a PRS CE24 and she sounded sweet and sounds even better with my PRS McCarty with Custom and PGn.

I just have a couple questions and concerns:

1. It just seems as though this amp isn't too loud, even on the 60 watt setting running into both speakers, perhaps I need to crank the "level" of the channel?
2. So if I were to getthe VC 4 or 12 and I wanted to save some patches, how would the volume differences work out? If I saved one patch with the amp set to 1 watt with the MV on 4 and level on 3, would it return to that volume if I fired the amp up and set it to the 60 watt setting with the MV and level on whatever different levels than the saved patch? Does the program saving only include the tonal and preamp configurations?

I will crank this baby tomorrow morning, there seem to be tons of tonal options here, especially if I get my hands on a VC12!

I'm not sure whether it will save the wattage you select or not. I thought it probably did since some of the presets are saved that way. It WILL save the volume at which you saved your patch. Crank the master volume if you need more channel volume.

I also grabbed one of the valvetronix tonelabs when the price dropped to $199 a while back. You can name your patches on it, it has an additional "virtual" gain, and you can also choose from about 11 speaker cabinet models. Very useful additions!

It's plenty loud, once you get a handle on the many knobs. OD/volume and gain, plus the amp volume and gain, plus the master volume. You can choose an amp, then tweeze all the tones to your liking, using the OD models, plus the amp's gain, EQ, and volume. Let your ears decide where all the knobs should be set. As far as versatility, the Vox Valvetronix are limitless.

I've found that it's best to use the OD section as part of your tweaking. I never have the OD models off. I use them to shape the tone.....even on clean amps.

before you buy heed this warning.. CRANK THAT THING AS LOUD AS YOU CAN.. I personally know of a few valvetronix amps (and have heard read reviews) which have structural instability and cause rattling/buzzing noises at loud volumes.. my friend got a ad120vtX as well (yea definitely go with the VTX instead of the VT line) and at high volumes the amp would make a crackling and flubbing sound with bass notes.. this was obviously due to vibrations of the light-weight amp cab even though it SOUNDED like a blown speaker.. I tested this theory by plugging in a Mesa 4x12 Traditional cab in the stereo extension jacks and the phenomenon sounded through the mint-condition mesa cab.. there's a number of things this could be caused by but I think it might either be the cheap input jack rattling or the 12ax7's rattling in their sockets

and to answer your question, the master volume as well as the wattage settings are not programmable

which GC did you go to and how much are they pricing this amp at?.. they could probably sell this amp at 600 and look the other way at the very lowest, so haggle a bit because these are discontinued amps
