just got my poor lil peavey ultra 60 head repaired cuz i burnt it somehow:(

well, i tested it out in the store, sounds fine. but wot bugged me was that when i tried a marshall mg100 head, i kinda felt the peavey sounds really bad...no tight bottom for rhythm. but some dude on youtube actually produced great tone using peavey ultra 60 with a marshall cab and emgs...

so i would wanna give it a try still

some questions:

1. i m looking for a 1x12 cab, would the blackheart be a decent cab? http://www.zzounds.com/item--BLABH112
any other good cab to look at? say, below $300 and not too big?

2. shud i just forget about the peavey and get a orange TT? im a college student, i need things to be small!!! being loud is fine.

thx for ur input~

Re: just got my head repaired, now i need a cab!

the marshall mg cab is probably one of the worst cabs out there.
The magnets on the back of those speakers are about the size of a doughnut.
Try a decent cab.

ya man i hope the peavey will sound better in the end. but the ultra was made in the late 80s...

Check Avatar http://www.avatarspeakers.com his stuff on ebay. He builds great cabs and has really decent speakers for low $$. BTW, the broken in Celestions he sells (Hellatones) are sweet! Good luck!!

I wish I could draw cartoons... I have this image of a guy standing in front of a psychiatrist's office trying to hail a cab.

as far as the guy on YouTube playing one and sounding good there is many things to remember about recorded sounds.... there is a lot of things that make a recording sound like it sounds... mic's, EQ's, Rooms, and the computer program.... then there is your amp speakers on your computer reproducing it... plus add to that the Ultra the guy uses on the net could of been modded, was maybe pushed at a loud volume producing a lot more power amp gain and speaker break up then the amp level you can play at your home, and then he could also have pedals in there as well....

also as a general rule great recorded sounds are kind of clean-ish... i never knew that until i tried to do some recordings... i had to cut the gain to almost off so i could get a good recorded tone
