Just got my TS-9 back from Mr. Spina and I hate it.

I hate it just about as much as I hate Dr. Pepper...and I love Dr. Pepper. This thing is really cool! I haven't gotten the chance to really hear what it can do seeing as it was about 8:00pm when I got it so I can't turn up my amp too loud. From what I've heard it is awesome for my smooth neck-pickup solo tone. I'm really bad at explaining tone, so I'll shut up for now. More updates tomorrow.

Thanks SO much Johnny boy (man)!

As soon as I saw the thread title I knew it was a joke... because seriously... I've never heard of anyone who hated his mods.

I seriously chuckled before I even opened the thread. Glad you like the pedal, try his DS-1 next!

Nice play on the Orson Welles quote: "I hate television as much as I hate peanuts. And I can't stop eating peanuts!"

I'm playing with it softly right now, but it seems to be noisy. I noticed this before the mod as well. Is there anything you people do to make it a little less noisy? Also, someone want to recommend me some settings? There might be some that I haven't tried yet that sound awesome.

I have my TS9 set up as my Crunch tone to compliment the slightly higher gain setting that I have on my amps Distortion channel.

I have my TS9 set as follows:

Gain - 9 o clock or a hair above
Tone - a little above 12 o clock
Volume - a little over 12 o clock again

Thats the settings I used on the pedal when I recorded my bands album last weekend and it sounded awesome thru my cranked Marshall JTM60 with either my LP Standard w/Seths or my Gordon Smith w/Screamin' Demon and Pearly Gates.

Hope you find the tone you're looking for. Keep playing with the pedal and I'm sure you will. It took me a while but that's how I'm keeping my TS9 set for good :D

Your TS9 should be very quiet....Are you playing through clean settings,or are you playing with some preamp gain and with high TS9 drive settings?

Also....Check things like your cable and the location of where you are playing and how close you are to your amp etc...If you are anywhere near a tv or a computer, that's a bad thing also....

Your pedal should have some slight hiss at higher drive settings, but it shouldn't buzz or hum....

The modded TS9 and 808s have plenty of gain after I Mod them so I like to keep my drive settings at or around mid point...I Like the tone at mid point or below...I never have the volume over midpoint though....Check your volume and drive settings because that's the source of any noise you might encounter..

Try to keep your TS9 settings where I mention and dial the volume or final tonal adjustments up from your amp and your guitar....I Like to have some gain with my TS pedals, but I also like to be able to roll my volume back on my guitar and get a cleaner tone....Experiment..It's not something you'll learn today though..

I also have a TS9 modded by John. Before I sent it to him I used to run the pedal at about 75% on all settings. When I got it back I was able to roll the gain way back, and I simply adjusted the volume and tone to get what I was looking for. It will take some getting used to. Experiment..... you won't be able to make it sound BAD!!. I have mine setup to work in a '69 Super Reverb. I use the pedal as a gain and volume boost, kind of like a channel switching Super Reverb. It works real well!!! Good luck with yours!!

Ah you're right. I had the gain and volume at around 7 :-P I knew something was weird when my TS9 was seemingly more powerful in the gain compartment! Now I'm keeping the gain and volume below half and it's really nice on my overdrive channel! Like I said, I can't describe tone very well, so all I can say about this is "awesome."

Can he do anything to make a the Turbo version sound any good?

Re: Just got my TS-9 back from Mr. Spina and I hate it.

I also got STRATDELUXER97ed TS-9. My setup is guitar to TS-9 to 2204 low input channel.

That green box is just incredible.

Thanks John

Stratdeluxer97 do you sell any pre-modded ts9's on ebay or a website?

No,normally guys just send me their pedals and I Mod them...I live in fear of ending up with like 6 TS9s,4 DS-1s and 3 SD-1s.....Years ago I was buying Tube Screamers when they were easier to buy,I'd mod them and resell them...Today a TS9 is always $70 or more....I don't even currently own a TS9 and it's funny because I see several TS9s coming and going here at home on a regular basis...I do own the TS 808 reissue though..

What mods can you do STRATDELUXER97 to a SD-1 and what is the sound difference after the mods?

thanks

:)
