..and they are the last piece in the puzzle for my SSL-1 loaded 63 L series tribute Strat.
Reason I got these is cause I jest cant stomach traditional wrap around tuners anymore.
These are height adjustable Gotoh 6 inline tuners. read about them.

Hoping they look vintage and I'm hoping they don't weigh too much.
Sperzels are very light tuners, but they dont look vintage ( alhtough they do make oval tuner buttons from them that look good from the front), and I'm going for a lightweight vintage fender assembley.
For anyone wondering, Schallers lockers are the best, but they weigh a ton and don't look vintage Fender.
I like Hipshot open gear lockers also, they are fairly light but they also don't look vintage .
I tried a set of Kluson Fender Vintage style lockers, but i had to send them back. They have a big huge locking post on the front of the tuner that decimates any vintage look.

Those look cool.

FWIIW, I am sure that the early Fender USA Malmsteen signature Stratocaster came with machineheads that looked like slot-top Klusons from the front but had the Schaller M6 type gear housing around the back. I suspect that DiMarzio had something to do with these.

I've never understood locking tuners, 99% of the time the string gets caught at the nut, string tree or bridge, not the tuner itself slipping. Just sayin'.

I think the main appeal (though I've never used them myself) is more to do with quick string changes, rather than tuning stability.

How many times have you poked yerself with the high E and drawn blood. Id say over 50 times in my life. Not that Im a sissy, but I donlt like it. Defimitley love quick string changes: Wrap ,wind , turn, "sprooooooing'..bah!! I could maybe live without them on the wound strings.
Just get a good cut bone or brass nut, or a Tusq.

Try restringing a Yamaha YSG. It has bizarre string posts that are supposed to lock the string as you begin to tension it up. Supposed to!

One big idea behind locking machineheads is fewer wraps around the post means fewer opportunities for string slippage between the wraps.

I like locking 'heads because it means I can dish out serious whammy bar abuse without ever needing a bunch Allen keys to fiddle with string clamping devices.
