Just had a couple of hours in heaven.........

Check this place out. Have a look at the basement. This is heaven on earth. It's a private collection so this stuff is NOT for sale.

Took my Firebird Studio to Bernie for a full service - new frets and nut and he persuaded me to have push/pulls fitted for single coil sounds from my RYs. I've known Bernie for years but haven't been to the shop since the basement was installed. Bernie makes basses for top players and they are things of beauty. I saw a gorgeous looking Tele which Bernie has just built for himself for 'fun'. Bernie makes his own bass pups but likes BKs for guitars. I forgot to ask what set he had in the Tele but it was the most amazing sounding and playing Tele I've ever laid hands on. I got to put it through an all original mint condition 60s JTM 45 and a 60s cab.

If you've ever wondered what all the fuss is about THIS is what all the fuss is about. The Tele through that amp - just WOW!!!!!! The tone was absolutely awesome. I also got to have a go on a 1955 Fender Esquire. Bernie said I could try that through the amp too but I didn't want too in case it was even better.

My stuff isn't bad - a couple of Gibsons, JV Strat and a Cornford amp but this was - different gravy. I'm still in shock.

That's beyond dumbfounding.. I think agog comes to what's left of my mind.

That other thread about tone chasing vs. playing made me laugh, because anyone who knows how to play a guitar knows why guitar players love great guitars into great amps. If you don't, you haven't plugged into enough cool stuff.

I doubt you became less a player after plugging a killer tele into a vintage JTM45. LOL

What's the big amp shop in NYC? Ultrasound I think, but I was there years ago trying out a lot of amps and he brought out his 56 strat and let me play on it for a while. I was just worried I'd break it or something. But, man, best amp demo room I've ever had access to. He had them all. He was big on Bruno's and Komet's. Had a Trainwreck there, several Carr's, Fuchs, etc. Definitely in heaven.

I must check that place out next time I'm in Brighton!

My son is at BIMM so I am visiting from time to time - must catch your band too!
