You're absolutely right Joe, you have to save for tone...but at the moment most tube amps will be a step up from the digital floor unit he uses for his guitar which has no amp at all and just goes straight to desk :smack:
He seems like he just wants a Fender though, for the simple fact that it's a Fender. He doesn't actually know much about amps and although I recommend things like an ENGL Thunder 50 which would be pretty perfect for what he wants he doesn't seem to like the idea of having the same brand of amp as me...which is kind of the wrong reason to not want a good amp, but what can you do...he is English afterall

I'll see how it goes, I just want him to get an amp so he can stop using that dreadful digital thing, and we'll probably end up going with a cheap Fender and a half decent pedal.
