Hello, Urm, I've literally just walked into the world of pickups and practically **** my pants with the vast amount of choice there is and I'm struggeling as to which neck pick up I should get.. I've decided on a SH-4 JB for the bridge for a rather heavy sound and I was thinking to mellow it out a bit, having something a bit more chilled and spacey, like the Smashing Pumpkins or Pink Floyd kind of sounds.. I'm throwing these into a yamaha body(I know, I know..) as a sort of project I'm going to work on for the next however many years haha! And using a fender 85 =] As said, I'm new here, forgive my impertanance <3

Yamaha guitar bodies are but the same as any other bodies, the hardware makes a bigger difference in making it a cheap-o changing the pickups is the next natural step, importantly try to find out what type of wood the body is made out of, if t's a super cheap wood like basswood 6 months from now you think the bridge sucks, then the tuners suck compared to the bridge and so on, so be carefull throwing great pickups in a body that's not good enough, because it will become a money pit, just my experience. but one things for sure, it's ALWAYS fun! xD anwways are you looking to use active or passive pups?

Since you've already decided on the JB in the bridge why not just use the SH2 Jazz in the neck? Seems it would fit the bill of what you describe. The screamin demon is a nice suggestion too but the SH2 is a bit mellower

Thanks for your reply man! Yeah dude, It's basswood haha! I do plan to work on this guitar though, so in 6 months time I'd hope to have a new body and neck, I thought it'd be a good move to sort the electrics out first so at least I have a playable guitar! My fernandez has active pickups, when they run out of battery I can't play through the amp which sucks big time, so for this guitar I'm going to go passive! You say wood makes a difference, I know that much but again so much choice I don't know what to go for haha! I aim to have a good durable guitar that'll last the riffs and raffs of student tourture, I care for my guitars but I want something that isn't scared to be pushed around a bit if you know what I mean..
