Just ordered an OCD....

The inside of the circuit board IS gooped up with insulation glue to prevent people from copying the circuit easily. You'd have to destroy the pedal to see what's in there.
Not really. ;) That stuff can be removed. It just takes patience and a hairdryer. I've seen it done.

I'm not a huge fan of his stuff. Sure, he uses good quality components and they're built like a tank but I think there's some substance missing. That's just me.

Re: Just ordered an OCD....

I think that Serial # 4563 and higher has the updated pot so anything lower is the original circuit!

I don't care for Mike, but he does have some cool pedals!

Re: Just ordered an OCD....

I have the FD-2 Mosfet and man that is very nice in the Mosfet mode! the Mini deja Vibe is excellent as well!

To each his own. After all, you're talking to someone who doesn't like Tubescreamers all that much! :laugh2:

Me neither. I cannot stand Tubescreamers. I'm a Super Overdrive guy. Much more natural sounding to my ears. They're even better modded.

I own the Mini Deja Vibe also and I Love it..Hands down the best Univibe style pedal I've tryed!

2 of my favorite players use it also....Robin Trower and Satch, plus Fulltone's website shows EJ uses it also?

Re: Just ordered an OCD....

Kind of a hijack here but i used to have the full-size Deja Vibe and the sound was much less colorful and less intense than what I'd expected based off of records I have where I KNOW that specific pedal is used. Does the mini-Deja Vibe sound different?

Re: Just ordered an OCD....

I believe Mike did make some tweaks to the Mini, there is also a Toggle to give you a brighter more modern Vibe or a darker Vintage type tone!

Mine is plenty "Trowery" and has a nice deep Vibe tone...

Re: Just ordered an OCD....

I love the OCD but how does it compare to the TONE BONE Brit models and the PLEXITONE?

Anyone wanna chime in?

I would say the OCD is more on par with the Tonebone Classic than the Hot Brit, The OCD has a nice clarity to it almost 3d that a lot of dirt pedals dont normally have! I'm using the Trimode now which by the way sounds great but its a huge pedal!

Just to add a little GAS this was just posted on the Fulltone site in the custom shop section!

finished the prototype for a new Hi-Gain Distortion with 3 Band EQ that's really good sounding! Was going to call it Plexi100 bu there are too many pedals with "Plexi" in the name, and that doesn't cover all that this pedal does. The EQ, particularly the Midrange control, is very flexible. Sonny Landreth is beta-testing a version, more news when available.

Maybe it'll replace the Distortion Pro or wahtever it's called. Haven't heard too much good stuff about it.

Re: Just ordered an OCD....

Just remember you have to tap it an even number of times every time or it will flip out!:chairfall

Also the OCD stack very nicely when goosed with a lower gain drive I use a FD-2 Mosfet edition which will mate up nicely with the OCD!

+1

I have the same combo and it works VERY well!

Lee,
Like yourself, I've been watching the threads about the OCD for over a year or so and really made up my mind based on your review on the LP forum. I'm hoping to have it in my hands by this weekend. What other pedals have you a/b'd the OCD with other than the Landgraffs?

I've A/B'd the OCD with the following using the High Gain Mode on the OCD (9 Volts):

1. Fully Modded Keeley 808 (sounds COMPLETELY DIFFERENT - not nearly enough gain to get to Haynes territory).
2. XOTIC RC & AC BOOSTER (The RC is merely a clean boost - the AC doesn't sound much like the OCD; the OCD is more Analog sounding when you're using the pedal's gain, not the amp's).
3. Red Snapper (similar to the Keeley 808, but sounds much better and is much more flexible. It smokes with my Strat if you want the SRV vibe, but also works with Humbuckers, too!)
4. Klon (entirely different pedal and used differently, altogether).....you know that I use that for the Warren Haynes' setup (e.g. good/heavy crunch > Klon for solos).
5. Fulltone 10th Anniversary Mosfet (much different pedal, but I haven't had much time to play her)
6. Throbak StoneBender (not tried)
7. Throbak Overdrive (not tried)
8. Landgraff Custom 818 (his spin on the 808; one toggle setting sounds kind of close and has enough gain to get there, but it still sounds different)
9. Landgraff Fully Custom OD (the down position on the this 3 toggle pedal is one-of-a-kind to me; however, it does not like the EL34's on the Blockhead, which sucks. It LOVES the Fenders, though. I'd love to get a Super Reverb and use this with it. This position sounds fairly similar to the OCD, but doesn't clean up quite as well.
10. Keeley Compressor: Can easily be used as a distortion pedal if you turn up the level....holy crap! It has some serious output.

Overall Impression:
None of my existing pedals really have the overall tone and flexibility of the OCD. Ryan, with your Goldtop loaded Fillmore/Brobucker combo, you could leave the pedal on ALL THE TIME and just adjust the guitar's volume. That part of the pedal is pretty cool!!!

I hope you are impressed when it arrives - if you don't like it, remember that you can send back the pedal within 5 days of receipt. Just make sure to get a R/A from Customer Support and confirm that you're returning the pedal.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts and I'll talk to you soon!

Best,
Lee Moore

Amen to that... the OCD really has its own thing going on, and it does clean up REAL nicely when you back off the volume. It's very sweet and organic sounding.

Anyone have some GAS-ex or something?

PS how do the CARL MARTIN tones compare? BTW care to go into more detail about the HOT BRIT? I wouldnt mind gaining up my Plexi more.

That's why I ordered it, but dang it....I was just informed that it is now on backorder and won't ship until after 6/8. :smack:
