Just ordered some parts for a new amp build. MKIIC+ Content

Re: Just ordered some parts for a new amp build. MKIIC+ Content

Its been a slow week ampwise with christmas commitment at work & getting a PS4 I havent done much other than some chassis prep & transformer mounting.

However I do like ridiculously large transformers so heres another pic of the test fitting.

I finally had my parts ship for my Soldano conversion to the SLO100 preamp. Now I'll just need to find time to do the mod. Sorry to make this about me.

I have finally got some time to do a little work on this! I think I may possibly hit my target of getting it done for christmas!

First up here's the octal heaters all done.

From here i've started doing all of the octal wiring including the simulclass "Class A" section

and also adding in the OT primaries and doing the other pair of octals & some grounding which I still need to straighten up before soldering and adding the Simul-Class switch.

Watch this space for more over the next few days.

Just a couple more.

Now that the octals are done It's time to finish wiring the PT

Nice work.!
I have had my hands in a lot of different amps...but so far (I think) Mike is the only guy I have seen run his heater wires that way.
If you copy his layout, there should be no problems...But I have always wondered how that technique would work on other amps.?
best

Some Hiwatts & Matamps have it this way too.

I have used it in most of my builds. I find it's easier to do and looks neater.

I can't say if it's any quieter as I haven't tried both ways in the same amp.

It saves a lot of time and wire too! Give it a shot sometime.

Yeah...hey thanks.
Heaters are the bane of my existence. If I ever wanted to own a slave.....
Thanks Again

I just finished PSU, mains & EQ switching.

Now I'm just waiting on some wire in the post so that I can extend the Output transformer secondaries and finish up.

There are a few little jobs that I can be getting on with though such as the pot wiring and the GEQ.

However I think I deserve to go muck about on the PS4 for a while.

I wish I could find a (easy) way to incorporate those Radial PS caps into turret/eyelet builds.
They are frequently WAY less expensive.
I have used them...but when complete.....it always LOOKS like it was an effort :-)

Looks amazing ..awesome work!

I barely have the attention span/skills to swap pups lol ..can't wait to hear how it sounds when you're done :)

I think the best way is to use eyelets but I agree using axials is easier but its getting harder & more expensive to get decent ones.

Why not go with a PCB for the PSU?

Re: Just ordered some parts for a new amp build. MKIIC+ Content

Very good idea.
I do a lot of conversions...seems like I am always fighting space constraints...could be hard to make an extra Board/PCB fit somewhere.
But I will DEFINITELY keep it in mind for next time.
carry on.....:-)

Re: Just ordered some parts for a new amp build. MKIIC+ Content

One way to use radial caps is to use the old method of vertical chassis mount. My Plexi build has them mounted outside the chassis. If they're short enough, they could be mounted internally and wired as necessary.
