Just ordered some parts for a new amp build. MKIIC+ Content

Very cool build. Lots of patience, you have. How thick are the circuit boards they shipped you? I'd imagine pretty heavy duty. Great work man!

Dude. You are a master. But I dont believe, not for a second, that the inside of a genuine MKIIC+ is like this !;

I can't speak to this exact photo, but I've seen some that looked a lot worse than this. One the other hand, opening up a Two Rock, or a Matchless or a Bad Cat and see something truly beautiful.

You haven't seen the insides of many boogies have you?

They got better in the late 90s but they're still one of the messiest amp manufacturers out there.

Also if you look closely at the blue Sprague electrolytic capacitors you can see the Mesa Boogie branding.

The boards are 2mm thick with 2oz traces. They're fairly sturdy & made very well. My main complaint is the solder pads are really small and in a lot of cases they could easily have a larger surface area.

Yep, my MarkIII is like ten pounds of **** crammed into a 1 pound bag.

I never get tired of watching pics of your elegant work! Congrats on a great build!

Looks fantastic & sounds awesome! Really killer build man, just super neat. Wish I had the skills/patience haha..

100% awesome, but nothing will top your SLO builds.

Thanks. This could do with a butf of tidying which it will get.

First I'm going to get rid of this reverb hum. Reverb if it's there in the original I Damn well don't want it in mine!

Are you still wanting to do the uber? That's possibly next on my list now that I have access to a real one so I can verify the schematics first.

I should probably get rid of my spare SLO parts first though.

I'm just going to finish the mod on my Jet City and call it complete for a while. I really can't justify spending the money on the transformer, let alone the rest of the build. But I'll be watching your threads with my interest piqued! You do great work, and it's more than cool to see and hear everything come together.

Tony, are you sure it's the reverb causing it? My amp is dead quiet until I get on the lead channel, and then it's white noise city. I've actually had it looked at a couple times, caps done, etc. Techs say it's just "the nature of the beast". No one else around here has an older II or III, so I can't compare, but if it's just the reverb that causes that I'd hella just yank it.

I've seen conflicting reports of how noisy the lead channel can be, so I wonder if they changed something on the later versions. My amp is a really early no stripe Mark III.

I'm pretty certain. At least some of it. I bypassed it and the hum reduced a little. A 5751 also reduced it the same amount so I'll leave it in.

I believe the rest of the hum is due to the grounding so I'm going to alter it.

The hum is also present on the clean channel. The actual lead channel noise levels are pretty low.

Re: Just ordered some parts for a new amp build. MKIIC+ Content

Hmmm, I've got zero hum on anything but the lead channel. It's actually bad enough that I've decided to get a g-string and see if that works.

There are some higher quality low noise preamp tubes out there for sale these days. But, you'll pay quite a bit more for them. Still, using them in a critical V1 spot might really help you a lot. TAD has several worth looking into.

I know, but that means I gotta pull an RCA.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's not tubes, but it couldn't hurt to try. I've been running the same thing in it for a while now.

Awesome thread, and sweet amp. I love seeing these things built to completion.

It even sounds like the real deal....maybe better. I can hear the Metallica tone clear as day in that clip.
