Just picked up my first real amp!

Hello, again! I got my first real amp today, a Roland cube 30! I actually just recently (2 months ago or so) got my first guitar, a Washburn X12 QVS. Anyhow, The local guitar shop I got it from threw in a small cheap practice amp for 20$ and FYI, it was absolutely awful. Well, I went shopping for a new Amp and I settled on a Peavey Bandit after looking online, but the local guitar shop didn't have one. And after looking around the owner came out and we started talking, and he leaned me towards the Roland. He said he could have gotten a bandit for me if I really wanted one but he thought the cube would do better for me. Well, I tried it and instantly fell in love. I'm not sure if it's just that I know nothing and I got used to my old amp on its cleanest setting sounding like the worst metal song in existence but the clean on the cube sounds beautiful to me. Plus I love all the different effects it has! So yeah I just thought I would tell you guys. :D

Congrats, the Roland cube stuff is good to have around for practice. I have an older one that I use with my iPad for BIAS and JamUp. I have an old Bandit 112 as well. I loved the hell out of that amp. It's been repaired a couple of times but it always sounded great.

Man the bandit would have destroyed the cube. Sorry bro.

I have a peavey bandit and a peavey jsx and i still love the bandit. Super handy for parties and jams. Easy to move, reliable and they are as loud as ****ery.

Still a amp is a amp and you now can jam on that project once its done.:biglaugh:

Well, it cost less, which is really important currently, and for me for awhile the cube is more than loud enough. :lol:

And I tested out the bandit at a pawn shop and it didn't really sound much better to me, but again I don't know what I'm listening for.

I'd actually take a Cube over a Bandit any day of the week. I like the Bandit, but the Cube is more versatile. I have a Cube 60 that I use mostly for practices/jams, but I have gigged with it on occasion, and probably will again should the need arise. The clean channel is great, and the second channel has a lot of great sounds as well. I'm partial to the cleaner sounds from the Black Panel, Brit Combo and Tweed settings.

Congrats man. That amp will easily last you a few years. If you stick a mic in front of it, you could even gig with it if you wanted to.

Cube > Bandit. You made a wise choice, congrats.

I'm not trying to say that the Bandit is a bad amp, just that the Cube is one of the best solid state amps around.

What a 30watt cupe over a 80watt bandit? i dont get it, One is a monster amp so ****ing loud that it will blow you're ears open and the other is a little 30watt bedroom style amp?

I know some of the bigger roland cubes are good but the smallest one isn't much chop. I have owned one.

What am i missing here?\


Oh wait a min i was thinking of a micro cube. haha sorry carry on.

All that aside, if you like the amp & got it for a good price, good job & good for you!!!!!!! I think he just wanted to tell people about his new amp, not start a pi@@#ng contest between the Bandit & the Cube? When I started playing a lot of years ago I played a $45 eclectic guitar with no amp for almost a year before getting a $20.00 S.S. Fender Champ witch I used for about 2 more years before buying my "first real amp" so as far as equipment goes you have a great setup to learn on. Jump ahead 15 years & I now own several "real amps" , from my vintage Champion 600 & AC-30, British not M.I.K., to some newer stuff like my VOX Night Train 50 & Reissue Twin Reverb. There's more but you get the point? Buying smaller amps is a good way to find your sound over the next few years & you can always trade up when the time comes.

I played for years thru various Gorilla amps and a portable Karaoke machine

plugged into a Large cabinet stereo ( one of them old 70's models )

I think someone posted a quote from the Telecaster handbook that said "It's just a plank of wood, you have to find the music in it", @ least something like that? I believe this "quote" to be very true in more ways than one. By that I mean that it not only pertains to guitars but all gear. I guess another one would be "an amp is just a box & some speakers, you make it sing", if you are only a few months into playing you prob. don't even know what sound you are looking for & even if you do that could change in a heartbeat, by just learning a new song or playing a different guitar? If you, Mallowpuff, were to come over to my house, I could hang a $10,000 guitar over you, plug you into a bunch of top of the line & boutique effects, & then into any of my very expensive & iconic in some cases, amplifiers. Oh, let us not forget all the rack gear!!! You wouldn't play any better than you do now & if you sounded any better the margin would be quite minimal. When I was younger I used to say "if I only had the money" & "I need one of these, its the answer to all my playing prayers"! You know, I think I played better when I was 17 than I do now & back then all my gear added up was prob. worth about $400? You just have to find the music brother, the gear will come & when it does you will understand that the gear accounts for about 10% of your sound, the rest comes from your heart, gut, & sometimes, if you are lucky, straight from the fruit of your loins!!! God bless you Bro., stick with it!!!!!!

I actually do have a question about it though, what should I not do with it like volume wise? I really just want to see how loud it gets outside but what shouldn't be done with it to keep the speaker from get stressed too much? Like not full volume? Or just not like every distortion on full with full volume and such? Thanks for any answers!

Really? :omg:

I'm gonna take it outside in a bit and turn it up. With the tiny bit of volume I can have on in the house, I can't really hear the reverb, and I just want to hear it loud. :headbang:
