Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

Luke, I totally respect your opinion on the matter. I see what you are trying to say, but there is still a part of me that feels like the line is a waste of human potential. Your probably right on the whole thing though, as I know I am heavily biased against everything that is a poor relic.

Immortal, maybe that is just because it's a PRS.:cool2: Lol, jk, I own a strat also. I have had americans strat, but I kept a Mexi 50s classic instead.

Human potential? Seriously? There hasn't been any real innovation in electric guitars EVER. They are 99% the same as they were in 1950. To suddenly be offended now because of a lack of "innovation" is just self indulgent.

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

my #1 strat has been my goto guitar since i bought it in 99, and the finish on the body is still flawless. the back of the neck is shiny where my hand touches it, and the rosewood has taken some color too.

that poly finish, does do its job, looks good no matter what

+1

I remember when I realized my two guitar stand isn't stable on one side without a guitar on the other.....yep the strat took it in stide. Not a mark....of course the trem arm did take a lot of the hit.

Luke

My 1996 MIA Strat is all beat up, the finish is definitely not flawless on it.

In my Little 59 video (in my signature) you can see where the finish is worn out at the top of the pickguard where I have always stored my picks. I have cuts and dents and gouges all over.

I don't think they are as bulletproof as everyone says.

Then again, mine has been gigged pretty much every year, very regularly since about 1999. But still... look at the first 7 seconds of that video and tell me about bulletproof poly...

This thread makes me want to buy a new Highway 1... and the fact that I just played one doesn't help either...

I came so close to posting something like "Two words: Highway One" in this thread.

My HWY 1 Texas Tele is just stupid good. It doesn't make sense. With a Barden bridge and compensated saddles the thing is a rock beast, plays and sounds great!

Mine has already started to show some wear, but I'm rough on it.

Kinda makes it hard to justify another $50 for a pre-worn mexi that's not even ash...

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

What suprises me the most, is the demand for these beat up looking guitars.. I mean, relics are one thing but the demand must be high for them to go to production with them . ALSO, there is another company, cant think of the name, but they advertise in the guitar mags. They have a Worn series out now too. So there must be a high enough demand. The way I see it, society these days, everybody wants something for nothing. Everyone is so hung up on appearance.. gots to have the bling.. So hey, Im a hack, but I want everyone to think Im a stud that has been on world tours.. So, I get a worn guitar and look the part.. Sad, but true.. Too lazy to beat up thier own guitars maybe?? haha
In all fairness, I know alot of guys that like the guitar to look aged. smoke stained color. Maple board with some stains from millions of riffs.. Makes the guitar look loved.. So these are for these guys.. Me, Id like to keep mine showroom new. Im like that to a fault.. I rarely play my beloved explorer cuz I dont want to mark it up. I bought 2 charvel 4s so I can play one, preserve the other.. I tried to do that with alot of my guitars, but I couldnt afford the doubles.. haha
Anyhow, apparently people like these.. I just cant see paying more for a beat up appearance..

One last thought. It may be silly and rather amusing what they are charging for a MIM piece. .. But not unethical. Unethical would be if they said they were made in the USA and sold them as USA and we found out they are MIM.. At least they clearly disclose where they are made.

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

I saw a gaggle of these Rod Worn instruments in the local Guitar Sinner... I had to chuckle. The "wear" on them looks so artificial. These will go the way of the Splattercasters before them, you just watch.

If they're gonna relic guitars, they should do it right and keep it on the Custom Shop stuff where it looks halfway realistic.

Hey man, I really liked the splattercasters!:friday: I've been trying to find a decent price on one on ebay, but everybody thinks they can charge $550+ for them just because fender doesn't make them anymore. Bleh.

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

Its not completely idiotic. While the look is marginal at best I do like the feel of the finishes. That said. I tried 3-4 at the local GC and everyone one of them had nasty setups and fretted out pretty badly. They haven't been there long enough for the Staff to screw them up so something is not right.

As for the blues lawyer thing, come on. Its still under a grand. No blues lawyer would pay less than 3 large

Each to their own, I wasn't stating that it being idiotic was a fact, just my opinion, but I still think it's just insane that anyone would buy a guitar that's beaten up for MORE money rather than just buy a used beaten and pay probably 1/4 of what a Fender Road Worn would cost.
To me it just couldn't be a sensible purchase decision *shrug*

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

I checked out the Road Worn strats at Guitar Center today. I really liked the looks of the ones I saw. The thing I liked the most was the cracked finish on the white one...

Anyone know how hard or what would need to be done to get little cracks in the finish like that on a new Highway One strat??

Would still much rather spend less money, get a better guitar, and relic it myself.

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

Bah ... I don't know why you guys are complaining. My 15-year-old MIM Strat looks exactly like the Road Worn ones. I mean, just because I change the oil in my car and play guitar at the same time doesn't mean nobody else does, right?

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go buy some new sandpaper wrist bands.

put the body in the freezer and then in the oven a few times. that should crackle that finish nicely!!

I'll tell you what.. There is NOTHING more effective than playing while eating cheetos, to give that maple board a vintage hue, and give white finish and binding that "classic" look!

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

Thats what I think of when I see that Edwards model or the Gibson models with the orange coloration on the binding switchtip. yuk

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

I get bummed when I see a nick or little scratch on my guitars.

Fender's ideas are getting way out there in left field. Gibson has monkey's for CEO's. :smack:

Send away for a Carvin magazine (good sitting on the can material) and look what they are offering!

The quilts and flames are the world's best selections! They are offering different radius' on their necks and now a tune-o-matic style bridge, if you want that!

Best thing is Made In The USA. Makes one feel good about that.

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

And who came up with that name "Road Worn". I have better names.

1. Pawn Shop Classic

2. UPS Survivor

3. Sammick Second

4. Vintage Boat Oar

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

I looked at a couple at GC in Seattle last weekend and was actually embarrassed to pick it up it looked so cheesy.

i see what you mean, i put mine in the bottom, and its chewed up the pickguard a little.

i'm ok with it wearing, its a little suprising how well its aging.

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

Thing is, to us guitarists it might be a bit over the top, if not downright dumb...but the illusion would work for the average joe in the crowd who knows nothing about guitars at all. To him, it's a guitar that's been through the ringer.

Couple that with the fact that some guitarists think if they step out with one that looks beat to hell, they look like more of a serious player...even if the guy with the shiny new looking guitar plays better...and suddenly you have yourself a market. Fender's just supplying to meet demand.
