Just put new p/ups in a LP R7

Kept the stock 500k pots and "Bumblebee" caps in place. Took the Burstbucker 1 and 2 out and put a covered SH-5 in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck. The Jazz sounds nice and clear and balanced. The SH-5 had a whole lot of presence. The Treble isnt bad it just seems to have a very bright overtone from low to high strings. Not harsh just bright. Tone adjusment on the guitar just seems to muffle and turning the treble down on my amps helps but isnt perf. I dont use presence on any of my amps. What can I do to make the tone things down a bit without lowering the pickup out of sight?

Stick an alnico II magnet in the Custom and turn it into a Custom Custom.

I am in a similiar situation as I have a 2004 R7 with a C-5 in the bridge but I was contemplating putting in a covered CC to fill the tone out a little, have you tried a CC in a Les Paul Robert S.? Sorry I did not mean to highjack the thread.

I have a CC in the bridge of my #1 LP and a PG in the neck. The CC definately sounds rounder and smoother but it still has a nice bottom end and a good top for solos.

That guitar had a C-5 in it for quite awhile but I thought I'd try something different. I've tried the Custom in a PRS Cu24 but found it to be a little too agressive and thick sounding for the tone I was after with that guitar. The C-5 worked better in that case.

Hmm...I was not too sure about Alnico pickups. I have owned all flavors of burstbuckers and the best sounding Gibsons I have owned had their stock ceramics in them. I just couldnt get over how damn ice-picky the BBs were. Unfortunately this R7 is naturally bright and it seems Im having some probs getting it to fatten up and lose some of that presence.

dude, ice picky is quite a common attribute of some ceramic mag pups :)

i'd say check out A2 magnets in general - Alnico II Pro, Custom custom, and *maybe* the jazz bridge? its A5, but its very smooth compared to something like the JB..

welcome :D
