This is slightly off topic, but when I'm soldering, I need a hand to hold the wire in place, a hand to hold the solder and a hand to hold the iron. Unless I grow a third arm sometime soon (I doubt that will happen), I usually get someone to come hold the wire. I'm a total idiot (no need to remind me) but does anyone else feel like there should be some sort of device to remedy this situation? Does anyone else have this problem, or am I missing something completely obvious?

Will see if I can dig up a picture for you.
Like anything else they are ideal for certain things, depending on model they get REAL hot! They are adjustable, but unless you can measure the temp of your soldering tip, and then duplicate it, they are trial and error for a while.Scott_F said:I'm just worried about too much heat frying my components. If this device doesn't do that, I'm in. But, I have a very low wattage iron (weller?) that probably cost all of 20 bucks. In fact, the base I got to hold it at Radio Shack cost more than the iron.
Great idea though. The cordless thing intrigues me. My brother in law has a cordless soldering iron that actually runs on butane, refills like those refillable cigaretter lighters. Not sure how hot it gets. Looked like a pain to me.
He beat me to it, and then you beat me to it ,....don't feel bad.Blue Calx said:Go to radio shack and get yourself a pair of "helping hands". It's a weighted base with poseable arms on it that have little metal clips on the end for holding stuff while you solder. It's even got a magnifying glass!
AH, jonny lane beat me to it.

OUCH $#%$^ F@#$^ why won't that $%%$solder melt! OUCH! OH great, the cord won't reach $$T$Fukkin thing!
