Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

We do a guitar build every year on TMRZoo.com . This years' build is starting to come together. We are going with a Vintage Sunburst Fender Strat with a lefty headstock. Locking tuners, LSR nut and most likely a Babicz Full Contact Bridge. The pickups are still up in the air but it will definitely be HH with chrome covers - something high output in the bridge with a more classic hum in the neck. I am putting it on a super switch to go B - B tapped - B/N - N tapped - N

If you guys have any ideas for the build please pipe in.

I have been going back and forth between Tortoise, Black and White but I am thinking the chrome will pop with a black 3 layer pickguard. You comment may have pushed me over the edge.

personally, i vote tortoise or white pearloid pickguard. black will look good too though.

looking forward to seeing this take shape.

Cool beans , it is just my thing now. None of my guitars have paint on the n.ecks, wore it off my Les Paul in 28 years and finished the job by hand sand. If you like glossy you can always go with some of that hardware store high gloss tung oil. I think the pure 100% is way better though and I have yet to add oil to a neck I have finished. You start out with all the parts I normally use , Graphtech Tusq XL nut would be my choice , if you drop them on the desk they are musical and resonant. My luthier buddy really doesn't see the need to change nuts unless they are broken or worn but I can imagine I hear a difference in a replacement. You gonna put a lefty bridge on it for the trem arm hendrix effect ?

No I dont want to have to get used to a different fell with the trem it will be a righty.

FWIW - I play lefty Strat bridges and it didn't take getting used to. Felt pretty comfortable right away.

Lefty bridge is an almost unnoticeable change , but it allows the touching of the strings with the arm for weird noises. Basically it only moves the anchor point of the arm , so there really is very little adjustment required for playing .That is just my perspective too and it has been awhile since I played one like that too.

I was going through the spare parts in my workshop trying to put together a punch list of what I need from Stew Mac and came across this black pickguard. I am going HH but wanted to get a feel for the vibe of the guitar with black. I am without a doubt digging it.

Black looks good , you gonna wire the pups series/split/parallel or tap them? Super switch, blend knob ? Way too complicated to operate safely in a live show environment?

Just put a black guard on my MIM
Went with white knobs and covers
If I can figure out how to attach a photo in Tapatalk I will put one up

If you are going chrome covers then I would suggest chrome dome knobs

I do love the metal dome knobs

Just ordered the pots, switches and caps. I am going with 250K they sound great in my other HSH Strat. One is a push/pull for a phase switch. Got the Super Switch and a 0.47uF orange drop. Each pickup will have a full and split position on the super switch with the middle being both hums on. For controls I am going 2 volumes, master tone.

Did the whole StewMac order and forgot the side dots for the neck. $5 shipping for a $5 part I would love to slap myself. I am just waiting on the pickups and then I am golden.

Just out of curiosity, why did you choose D'Addario Auto-Trim tuning machines? I just discovered those this year.

I have been a Spetzel guy for years. I love the ability to quick change a string with the locking tuners. The Planet Waves take the next step and actually trim the string for me also. I thought this would be a godsend in live situations. The D'Addario Auto-Trim have a good gear ratio and they look sharp but when I found they were designed Ned Steinberger it was game over I had to try them.
