Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

Re: Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

Very nice results, my friend. That configuration description sounds very flexible and useful. I bet that is a joy to play and you can get a lot out of it. Those are the guitars that become the gigging workhorses and daily players.

Thanks so much for the nice comment. So far I have been having a ball with it. I am relearning Crazy Train for a gig and the Fralin High Output nails the sound. I am also impressed of the tone of the pickup split. It is very Strat like save the quackiness. The Pure PAF is just that. Very vintage voiced with very pronounced mids, just like I like it. Right now I am like a kid in a candy store. I have a few tweaks left. I think I am going to bring the action down just a hair. She plays great I just want to gut the setup exactly where I like it.

How hard was it to put the shelf in for the LSR

Not hard at all. I screwed it up bigtime on my last build so I sent out the guitar to have they LSR done. Without the right tools you can really screw up your fretboard putting one in. I had they guy do the side markers while he had it also. One thing I didn't plan on was the sidemarkers on a lefty neck being on the wrong side for a reverse build.

That is getting pretty close to one of my guitars man , just need some Planet Waves Machines and remove the gloss/poly from the neck and some Tung Oil. I can't remember if those are SS frets or not ? Sounds like you like the Fralin High Output , I have had a build in mind for a set of those for quite a while. Switching options sound good too , when a pickup has that much output they generally split pretty well in my experience. Cool beans ! We really like it !

Sperzel Locking tuners

Early in the project you said you were going with D'Addario Auto-Trim tuning machines (with the black posts). I notice you are back to Sperzel (curious why) but more importantly, are the Sperzel's staggered? It almost looks like you don't need a string tree. I'm not seeing anything on the Sperzel site saying they are, however. Is it just an illusion in that photo, or are they really staggered?

You are dead on. The Planet Wave broke a bit high for my liking on this guitar. I thought I could get away with no string tree with the staggered Sperzel tuners but the E was not cooperating. Also the Planet Waves were right handed tuners and I needed left handed tuners. I have another guitar the Planet Waves will be perfect for so I will through them on that axe.

That's a pretty sweet looking guitar. I love partscasters!
