Just tried out a 5150 III

MAN, I'm suffering from some gas now. I tried it out with a Gibson Zakk Wylde custom, a John Petrucci sig (I like the D sonic in the bridge!), a Tony Iommi SG (found the Iommi pups a little thin and brittle, still good though) and an epiphone elitist custom through the matching cab). I LOVE the sound of this amp. On all the guitars the clean channel was bright, snappy yet warm (It sound best with the Les Paul custom), Channel 2 is a wicked overdrive channel that covers alot of territory from slight to hard overdrive and full on distortion (This COULD be me favourite channel if turned up nice and loud to give it extra balls) Channel 3 is full on saturated metal (kinda soldano-ish I felt) and is powerful yet tight and articulate (sounds great at low volumes)

Overall I found the amp to be clear, bright, tight and very articulate. It can cover a wide variety of sounds yet is firmly rooted in rock/metal. Wish I could try it out cranked . . . . I could only get it to about 1 or so. I ALSO wish it was more in my price range hahahaha, but Thats the life of a student.

Anyone else try one??

I like mine a lot. So far it completely voids my needs for any other amps other than having something small around to practice with.

I can get it to mimic just about any sound I can imagine.

If you only got it to 1 you never heard the amp. Turn it up to 5 or 8 and you'll actually get to hear what it sounds like. It cleans up and clears up a ton once you open it up.

What was the street price for the head and cab? I read $2000 and ~$900, I didn't know if that was list or street though.

I'm in Canada and the head was somewhere between $2000 and $3000 and the cab was about $1400. I wish I could have turned it up (maybe I had it to about 2 or so hahaha) but it was in the middle of the store not in a practice room so I couldn't crank it up. Hopefully next time . . .
