Do these trems retro fit on a Les Paul w/o any modifying? And I do know that you would have to put the locking nut behind the existing nut but, could I just slap a Kahler on and go?
You'd have to ask Kahler. Not many people here have much experience with Kahlers, but from what I know, the body would have to be routed for the springs underneath the bridge- nowhere as much routing as a Floyd though
jmh151 is right, you have to rout the top for the spring assembly on the bottom of the Kahler, about 2" by 2" by about 3/4" deep if memory serves. It's nothing at all like the Fender/Floyd route, but it does involve removing wood. This is the only unit I know of that is in production you can just slap on, it's called a Stetsbar; http://www.stetsbar.com/stop.tail.html
Or you could find an old Washburn Wonderbar, but I have no experience with either. The Deluxe in my avatar came with a Kahler from the factory and I happen to like it, but it's an aquired taste, I'd recommend really researching this before you route out your Lester.
A khaler is the bar to put on a paul if any at all. Still don't know you'd want to do it yourself. It does require a hole in the top so it's non-reversable! But - way less intrusive than a Floyd. DOn't do this to a vintage guitar you might wan't to resell someday. Or better yet - play like you mean it and drill a hole where ever you need one to wail like the shred - god you are! Collectors are posers!!!!!
