Kahler on a Strat?

Well, my HWY1 Strat is a great guitar and I love it.

One of the best necks I have ever felt, sounds good. But the Trem isnt a locking one, and it works good, but I am always nervous it will go out of tune.

So I wanna put a locking system on it. I am used to floyd, but I wanna try a Kahler. I havent that much time with one, but I liked their feel.

But any pros/cons? Over the stock and a floyd?

I dont care about the value of the guitar, its a workhorse not a museum guitar.

Also experiences with putting one on a strat?

Would love some input from Zerberus on this one :)

Thanks.

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

It will require a big chunk of the top of the guitar to be routed out. But nothing at the back.

Since your guitar is already routed for a vintage trem, you're probably better off with a Floyd man.
Locking nuts are annoying to fit on Strats too...

Otherwise I liked the feel of a Kahler a lot myself. There's also a lot more scope for adjustements... and for screwing up! The amount of screws and allen screws in there is mind boggling. A Floyd is a VERY simple piece of hardware compared to a flatmount kahler.
So if you get one second hand, make sure none of the screws and the likes are messed up.

Otherwise it's slightly easier to adjust and setup... It's pretty comfy as well. I liked it.

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

The routing aint a problem, I have a buddy whos a luthier, who can do it cheap.

I just wanna try something different than a Floyd... Plus I can always put the vintage trem on it again :)

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

No. Once you have it routed for a Kahler the only way to put anything else on it would be to fill in the route and re route the whole thing.

The Kahler's footprint is BIG.

I think you MAY be able to put a vintage trem back... and you'd be left with a huge route that pokes through the trem cavity I think. I wouldn't know for sure.

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

I know, but it can be done. My point is that it isnt a irreversible thing.

The only con would be that niels will kick me in the balls if I do it. :)

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

I would too ;)

Unless you actually DIVEBOMB, you should be fine with a vintage trem. Learn how to set it up properly, how to string in the best way for trem useage and you'll be ok. Most people are. Floyds are for REALLY heavy use. But that's just me...

I'm not 100% sure if it even is reversible. And that's a funny word to use since you'd still be left with a big gap right on your guitar's top. But eh if you don't mind...

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

I dive bomb alot.

Also do all the 80s whammy tricks.. Pinch harmonics and rapid pull ups with the bar and all that stuff.

And I dont really wanna stand on stage and do a solo, only find out my guitar is out of tune. :)

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

Well like I said, it sure is possible. But if you want to reverse it, don't mind the gaps.

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

I know.... But if I shall get it reversed, then I could allways just go for a refinish.. I allways wanted a black or Vintage white strat. :)

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

Of course.

thanks mate :)

Others opinions etc would be cool :)

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

Oh come on old man... Just because I beat you yesterday :D

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

Well, if I want something that locking and able to go up/down, what do you suggest then?

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

i'll have to go with floyd on this one. it's cheaper lol, and easier to find. but if you're willing to then i guess the kahler is nicer

Re: Kahler on a Strat?

Let me know when you find a "nice" Kahler;)
A boing boing vib..hehe
It is not exactly whacking out of tune for him like it is now, unless he really have something strange to it!
