Kamikaze Project PHASE FOUR ... *Pics*

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
After much anticipation (those of you who talk to me online most days will know exactly how much anticpation, with many epithets hurled at the UK's "Royal" mail service), the Laz Gajic (aka, Kammo1) neck arrived by post this morning!

It actually took just under a week to reach NYC from the UK, which is very good!

As promised, here are some pics I snapped of the happy union of body + neck. :)

**QUESTIONS FOR LUTHIER TYPES!!**

ONE. The R5 nut that Warmoth sent me is the kind that screws in through the bottom of the neck; I want a nut that attached via the top. Do you know where I can get this from? My guess is that Warmoth sent me a Schaller R5 nut, not an Original Floyd nut ...

TWO. Does the nut need to be glued in place, or just screwed down? Can I simply glue it in place without screws? If so, what glue should I use?

THREE. According to Schaller's lit for the M6 mini tuners, they are supposed to fit into a 10mm hole. Laz cut perfect 10mm holes, and the fit is just a bit too tight. Should I run very fine sandpaper in the holes to make them big enough to fit the tuners? What grit sanpaper? The holes are the precise diameter of the tuners. With some struggling, I was able to get a tuner 90% of the way into the hole, so I know it needs the barest amount of widening.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP!!!! :) :) :)

A word about the construction of this neck: WOW. That is my word. The feel of the neck is just astounding. It has the lightest satin finish I have ever encountered in my life. While the birdseye is not quite as nice as the stock that was used on my Wayne, it is still highly figured and it photographs beautifully, as you can see in the pics.

Laz built this completely to my specs, and I couldn't be happier! I can't wait to actually fnish the project and play the guitar!!!

Wow... I mean... wow :) That birdseye is incredible.

As far as the nut goes, here's a bit of advice... I would glue it in place as well as screw it down. One of mine gets loose ocassionally, and makes an annoying popping noise when I dive.

You might also consider gluing the neck in. I did this to a friend's BC Rich bolt-on, and he started raving about increased sustain before I even told him I did it.

That's kick-ass. I really like the reverse hockey stick over the sawtooth.

Love it!

The neck just looks sooooooo sweet, man!

I bet you're dying to shred that thang!
You have to tell us how she plays when you're done.

Ditto!
I know a couple of people that think I'm nuts for swapping everything out on the Kami, but I think it looks 10x cooler, besides being totally custom now.

Re: Kamikaze Project PHASE FOUR ... *Pics*

That is a purrrrrdddyyy neck there boy ;)

No inlays/dots huh? I'd be lost on that fretboard :laugh2:

Hell Ben, I'm excited for ya. Puttin together your own guitar like that has to be a really cool experience.

BTW...whats the body made of? Basswood? Maple? Alder? Ash?

The neck + fingerboard are not 1 whole piece ... the neck is 1 piece and the fingerboard is another.

I think I may be lost at first, too! LOL I'm planning on playing it as much as possible between now and the June 3rd gig.
Body is 1 piece, solid maple. :)

That looks delightfully supreme!

Oh, and btw, the pinch harms at the start of the Near Dark solo has my face dancing. How embarrasing!

That bird's eye maple looks beautiful. I played a telecaster with a bird's eye maple neck last weekend and ooh, that thing was like silk...

Now I really can't wait to see photos of that thing in action!
