Katana 212 Speakers?

Guitar Center right now has a really cheap Katana 212 (100w) for really cheap. The only problem is that it is missing it's speakers. I've never played one of these, so I don't know what to expect from it. All I've heard is that it has a tad bit of harshness from the power section, whatever that means.

I'm thinking going with the old V30/G12k combo, but again, I don't know how the amp sounds.

Re: Katana 212 Speakers?

if your concern in getting it is because its cheap

why spend 200 dollars more on speakers

how cheap is it

you can get some EHX speakers for 34 dollars each

they will work just fine

Re: Katana 212 Speakers?

Money isn't a major concern here, I just picked it up for about $125 because I wanted something small and flexible to take to college with me. I don't want to have to bring any pedals or my full rig with me.

Re: Katana 212 Speakers?

The stock speakers are based off of the Celestion G12T-100. If you wanted to get close to what came with it from the factory, that will likely do it for you.

What are you looking for out of your amp? American/British, modern/vintage, etc.

Re: Katana 212 Speakers?

Well the thing I was thinking is that with a modeling amp
The speakers should be more neutral
And you need two
The V30 is a bit over 100 bucks
And you need two

The modeling part should make the less expensive EHX speakers sound fine
The EHX speaker is a V30 styled speaker

They have a 50 watt British V30 style speaker
And a 75 watt modern style speaker for 44 bucks

Either one would give you two speakers for the price of a single V30

Re: Katana 212 Speakers?

So you're telling me that I should get the most efficient neutral sounding speakers rated at >50w without going overboard on cost?

I'll look into those speakers you said, but I've heard good reviews about the Eminence Tonkerlite in the Katana. Plus at 4 lbs a speaker, it should make the amp lighter too.

Re: Katana 212 Speakers?

Lighter is cool too

But yes neutral speakers in a modeling amp

I like the Eminence speakers as well
They have some nice selections as well as there budget Legend series

The Celestian Creamback Neo is a nice speaker as well
But those are $169 each

Re: Katana 212 Speakers?

So what neutral speakers are there that tend to have good vume and low weight? Are the Tonkerlites like that?

Re: Katana 212 Speakers?

Use cheap used speakers

If the stockers are t100-style, your cheap and dirty solution is probably t75's? Pair of those shouldn't set you back more than $70-80

Question is what ohms it needs... 2x 16 ohm speakers can only do 8ohm (32 being kinda useless), while 2x 8ohm can do either 4ohm or 16ohm

Hmmm specs online suggest you need 2x 16ohm speakers.... should be easy to find, since most takeoffs from 412 cabs will do the trick. Lotsa people reloading their 1960A's, cheapie 16ohm T75's should be plentiful
