Just ordered one today. ANyone use or have experience with this pedal? Thoughts? How did you use it ala clean boost, dirty boost or separate distortion through clean? WHat amp did you use?

Re: Keeley Modded DS-1 users.....

I currently use my Keeley DS-1 for all my dirty sounds live. I have used it with a slightly dirty JCM800, as well as several fully clean tube and solid state amps. I can't really give you any other tips than that what the box really excels at is dirtying up and pushing an already slightly gritty tone. It is however also quite good as a pure source of distortion.

I've compared it to a new DS-1, as well as a late 80's stock DS-1. In my ears it was smoother and more musical sounding than both of the other boxes. The 80's box had a similar mojo quality to it, but that may just have been my fascination and love for older gear.

It is however worth noting that when I play with people using the two other boxes (they are owned by two of my former band mates), they will generally have a slightly more cutting sound. I think this may be because the Keeley is slightly fatter sounding, and therefore "sits" more into the mix.

I've read countless amounts of rave reviews on it. Looking forward to plugging in My ESP EC1000 to my DSL100 and lettting it roar. What settings did you use?

Tone ca. 9:30-ish to 12:00, depending on how dark sounding the amp is, level to where it slightly boosts the signal (I can't remember how much), and dist to roughly 13:00-ish. Maybe a a little more if the amp is very clean, less if the amp is crunchy to begin with.

The mode switch... Haven't made up my mind yet. :banghead:

Not sure about mine. Run it into my Legacy and by itself I wouldn't say it's great. If I boost it with my Bad Monkey sounds much better. It's a loud, loud pedal, couldn't believe the volume jump from stock to Keeley.

Re: Keeley Modded DS-1 users.....

I had one. First I got a stock one then I got a Keeley modded one. I hated the Keeley modded Ds1. In a couple of ways it was better like the tone control worked better and had a lot more distortion and was more versatile with the toggle switch. However it zapped the life out of the Ds1. It sounded tamed and a lot like a modded tube screamer.

I totally prefer it stock. It is not perfect but sounds great. The only mod I would have done to a Ds1 is to give the tone control a greater range. If that mod alters the sound I would not want it.

If you search the internet you can find comparisons of the Keeley ds1 to the Vox Satchurator. I dont think those two pedals sound the same at all. The Satchurator sounds fuzzier with more gain. The Keeley ds1 is a smooth overdrive. It totally loses the Marshall vibe when you get the Keeley mod.

What's some other good Keeley efx?

What's wrong with the effects we got?

Sorry, couldn't resist.
