Killer old marshall on ebay...

Re: Killer old marshall on ebay...

Oh yeah. That's sweet. You know that thing is just loaded with Marshall Mojo.

Why, Lew? Why? :(

Re: Killer old marshall on ebay...

wow... that matchless must be THAT good.

Lew: are you thinning the herd because of space issues, money issues, not being able to crank issues, or that the matchless kicks that much ass issue?

Re: Killer old marshall on ebay...

he has said in other threads his 2 matchless just kill all his others.

i concur. my celtic franklin is basically a matchless Lightning. Once I built and tweaked it, i started selling off my stuff as well...

Re: Killer old marshall on ebay...

Thanks guys! I'm thinning the herd because, as Hoss says, I am in a state Matchless Tonal Nirvana...

I have more amps and guitars than I need and I'm kind of keeping the stuff I actually play on a regular basis and letting the other stuff go.

That Marshall is the best Marshall I've ever owned...but as stated in the listing, it's nearly 100% original including the orginal 35 year old filter caps.

The problem is, if I recap it ( so I can gig with it again ) it'll lower the value because it won't be 100% original anymore...but it needs a recap.

The truth is: I do prefer my Matchless Chieftan. It doesn't really sound exactly like a Marshall but it's close. And it has reverb and a killer master volume control that actually works.

Plus, it's cathode biased which gives me a smoother, more touch sensitive tone...I can squeeze the notes out more easily at a lower volume than with my fixed/grid bias amps like the Marshall.

Thanks again, Lew

Nice! I'm glad you got a good amount for it; think of it this way, you get to really get to know your Matchless better now with less competition around ;)

Thanks! I'm not all that sad about losing the Marshall. I hadn't been playing it the last few years and truthfully, I think the Matchless Chieftan is better made, better sounding, more versatile and 20 to 50 years from now, going to
be just as collectable as the Marshall stuff.

If only Hendrix had played a Matchless....:laugh2:
