The Edge and Mark Knopfler.... but those sounds aren't totally clean. Both of them are riding the edge, with that super-sparkly haze around the notes. If they were to dig in hard you'd hear some crunching. Arrr, give me more!

Always have loved EJ's clean tones, especially on Avia Musicom. Saw him recently play thru 2 Deluxe Reverbs, I was standing at the edge of the stage right in front of him and it was the best I've ever heard, stunning actually. Funny, I love his recorded lead tone, again especially on Avia Musicom but live it just mushes out too much and kind of becomes a muddy mess to me live. Maybe my ears just can't hear all the frequencies they used to be able to?

Thats the problem with a DR. You can't crank them and stop the mush. I have one and once the volume gets over 5 it starts to get difficult to keep it clean. My preference for a high volume clean is a Twin. Its pretty hard to get them to break up...... just too loud for most of the stuff I do!

I agree EJ has awesome cleans on record, but his cleans live to tend to get a little muddy!
