Kirk Hammett's now using Duncans!!

Re: Kirk Hammett's now using Duncans!!

Kirk Hammett is not a Seymour Duncan endorser, so we're not going to use his name in connection with our products. However, Bay Area guitar repair maven Gary Brawer of Stringed Instrument Repairs is going to be writing a "Gearhead" column for Guitar World about a series of pickup installations he did recently for the artist in question.

What we can't say, Gary can.

Look for it.

Re: Kirk Hammett's now using Duncans!!

I have a question regarding endorsements... if I was a Seymour Duncan endorser, would that mean I am only allowed to use Duncans? Meaning, I wouldn't be able to talk about using EMGs in magazines and what not?

Re: Kirk Hammett's now using Duncans!!

All of our signed endorsers are "exclusive," meaning that while they don't have to only use Seymour Duncan or Basslines pickups, that can't also endorse our competition -- meaning appearing in catalogs, ads, etc.

So, they have to use SD pickups, but they can use others as well, so long as they don't talk about them?

I'm wondering if your friend at SD might not want you leaking it here on the board, and claiming it came from an employee :smack:

hahah yeah exactly...not that it bothers us though :D

What I think Evan means is that they can use other stuff, but not appear in advertisements, or get paid by other companies.

It's ok to have a guitar loaded with EMGs, and tell people you use it.
It's NOT ok to appear in an EMG ad.

Right?

Although, if you are hooked up with a company who has a top-notch custom shop (such as Duncan), it makes little sense as to why you'd use other people's stuff. Like, if I had a Duncan deal, and wanted an EMG 81, I'd have the CS make me a Live Wire that sounded like an 81.

My prediction is that Metallica will still refrain from rocking despite more-rocking pickups. The reason? Loss of touch.

Straight-up, they've been rockstars for too long and now the money and women and happiness have left them with no angst to rock with. Reguardless of what pickups are in your guitar, you can't rock without the angst.

I mean, whoever heard of a happy blues musician...even BB King has arthritis or whatever.

Even though I love Duncans and EMGs I don't think either will help Metallica unless they can write some better songs IMO. I'm just not a fan of anything after the Black album really.

Thanks for clearing that up, because after reading some of these posts, I was growing a bit skeptical myself. I have never seen Metallica live (oh i wish i could), so can anyone who has seen them (post-St. Anger, that is) answer this question thats been bothering me for some time: does their live set mainly consist of St. Anger stuff now, obviously they still play their classics, but is it a lot of their "nu-metal"??

Nu-metal is a style of playing. It has nothing to do with the amps or guitars.

Here's Kirk's live rig....

Although some of the stuff has changed, it's really not that different from their Load/Reload rigs.

Re: Kirk Hammett's now using Duncans!!

I saw them at the reading festival a couple of years ago not that long after st anger came out, and it was mostly older stuff, so by now i am guessing seeing as they know fans dislike it they probably only play a couple from that album.

Re: Kirk Hammett's now using Duncans!!

Even most of his Les Pauls have EMGs, they just have different covers (like Hetfield's).
