knob job nightmare..

OK, Here is my sad story....

This morning I went to my brothers house to work on his stage 100.
The input jack has come apart internally... I go to take the knobs off of the front panel all goes well untill ......I get to the last four knobs....

!!!!!THEY WILL NOT BUDGE!!!!!

I ruined 2 of them prying from both sides with some metal strips...don't know how bad I flattened the wiper or if I can press the internals back together and repair them because I ...STILL CAN'T GET THE OTHER KNOBS OFF!!!

It's no big deal to replace the pots, but who wants to if they don't have to?
any tips/suggestions would be appreciated....HELP

Re: knob job nightmare..

I'm thinking I will have to replace the pots too..I have never had any stuck like this!

What does any one think of dripping some wd-40 or the like down the flat side of the shaft and leave the amp assembly on its side so the oil runs down into the knob???

Re: knob job nightmare..

I use a shoe string. Just loop it under the knob and apply pressure and it should come off.

Re: knob job nightmare..

all good suggestions so far. maybe I can get even pressure w/ pliers or string...but the main problem is that they are stuck enough that they are pulling the shaft out/partially out enough to ruin the pot...

Yes, I did just say pulling the shaft in a post entitled knob job...:1:

Re: knob job nightmare..

Sure got nothing to lose trying wd40.
I use a flat shoe lace to pull knobs. (somehow that doesn't sound right.)

Re: knob job nightmare..

I am not familiar with that model but if they are just plastic, I would take pliers and crack them off. Replacement knobs sound like less of a hassle, especially if you get the ones that have a hex set screw

BTW, the hairdryer method will work also. I doubt WD-40 is going to do much since they are on the shafts so tight, the lubricant can't penetrate where you need it to

Re: knob job nightmare..

thick piece of cardboard - place underneath side of the knob. use a screwdriver to force some pressure up underneath the knob - do this gradually around the full 360 degrees. The cardboard should stop you scratching the surface but give you something to force against.

Me too. That's exactly how I do it.

The Stew Mac tool is better though.

Are they made of plastic??
If so heat them up with a hairdryer and then remove them.

That's was I was thinking - but I've never tried it.

Re: knob job nightmare..

Shoe laces?

Hair Dryers ?

Oh come on ladies !

Just grab a hammer and smash em' off.
