Knobs dont fit

Re: Knobs dont fit

Many Asian-made pots have 6mm metric shafts, US spec is 6.3mm (or 1/4"). That I think is your problem. Just get the correct knobs, or change the pots. Measure you shaft diameter on the pots to be sure. Also, some pots, like many Bourns models, have a different knurling, even on the 1/4" shaft ones. The only knobs I have found that fit those is the StewMac ones.

Re: Knobs dont fit

Worst case scenario you're out a couple pots (30 cents each and 5 minutes of soldering).
I get my potentiometers from here: http://www.taydaelectronics.com/potentiometer-variable-resistors/rotary-potentiometer/logarithmic/500k-ohm-logarithmic-taper-potentiometer-with-solder-lugs.html and you're right, I underestimated the price . . . they've gone up to 50 cents now.

Only the finest Chinese potentiometers for you my friend!:9:

Re: Knobs dont fit

Yeah I know pots are not expensive, but they dont sell them anywhere in my country and that means I have to order them from ebay. Anyway, its just a pair of weeks. I will try to make them fit. Thanks!

On a seprate note maybe you should order some pots just to have them on hand.

Re: Knobs dont fit

^ Solid advice. I often throw stuff on orders that I don't even need at the moment. Call me a hoarder but always be prepared.

Re: Knobs dont fit

Its not the width its the # of ridges. On the knob inside / corresponding to the ones on the potentiometer shaft

Well, not necessarily. USA made pots have larger diameter shafts than Asian pots, even if they have the same number of knurls/"ridges".

Re: Knobs dont fit

You have the choice of one of three possible solutions.

1) Buy the correct size knobs,

2) Buy different pots,

3) Drill out the inside of the knob to fit your current pots.
