Kramer Question

Re: Kramer Question

Man I have a Focus 1000 and it RULES! I love everything but the Dim Super Dist in it. It's just too thin for this guitar. I'll put something with a tad more grit in it someday. Man what a killer guitar though. Strung her up with 11's and adjusted the truss rod and it plays like a wet dream. Best playing guitar I own bar none.

Re: Kramer Question

Hey, had some more time to play, and I've got a question:

How do you raise the height of the saddles? The A and the B strings need to be raised just a hair, because I can't fret any notes above the 12th fret on either string. The notes also fret out on the high E string on anything above a 1 step bend, so I'll need to do some minor tweaking to get the action just right...

Ok, now on to some more impressions:

Firstly, what's the radius on these bad boys? The fretboard is nearly flat, I can barely detect any curvature at all. However, this doesn't seem to affect playability. In fact, I've got to agree with gr8 scott and say this is the best playing guitar I own as well. It may also be the best playing guitar I've laid my hands on, which is really impressive considering that the neck is fatter than on my highway 1 strat.

Amplified, the more I play it, the more I like the way it sounds! I keep surprising myself when I play this thing too - it just plays absolutely effortlessly. I opened up the back to look at the floyd, and it only has 2 springs, so I may install another and adjust the truss once I get my hands on some more .11's. On a side note, I also finally got a brass telecaster saddle installed on my project jazzmaster on the high E and B strings, and I busted a string by accident, so I'm going to pick up a few sets tomorrow anyway.

I've actually thought about throwing a PGb in it, seeing as I have a chrome covered one lying around, and I think I'd like the look. I love the way the PGb sounds too, but it may end up being too vintage for this shred machine. Although, for the time being, I'm keeping it stock while I get some adjustments done.

The fret wear is pretty minimal considering it's a 25-ish year old instrument, there's still plenty of metal left should I decide to get it crowned. Intonation might be the best of all my guitars, I can play fretted chords with open notes anywhere on the neck without a hint of dissonance or any such nonsense. Once I get it to where all the notes sound out loud and true above the 12th fret, this is absolutely going to slay.

Thanks again for all the advice you guys, I'm glad to say I'm a kramer convert! Although, this came up in another thread, and I think I have a problem... I like too many guitars! Most of the people I know who love fenders hate gibsons, and most of the people who do like both of those dislike so called 'shredder' guitars. I like all of them! Its getting to the point where I can walk into a guitar center and be equally happy playing almost any guitar in the store... Is something wrong with me? I feel like there must be at least one style of guitar that I'll dislike...

Re: Kramer Question

Very cool!! I dont know the radius, but I love the feel.. They are easy to fly on. also, dont have access to one of my floyds, so I cant explain the adjust on the saddle from memory.. Sorry bro!

I am like you on the liking too many boat! I like my fenders, love my paul types and my shreddies.. Thankfully, I dont feel it when I play PRS or Gretchs. (sp?) neither feels really natural to me. This is good, cuz I cannot afford either one.

Re: Kramer Question

i bought one like the white one in the pic on the last page, and its a great axe.

i gave it to my bro, but it plays like butter and sounds HUGE.

Re: Kramer Question

Gretch? Hagstrom?

I haven't played a hagstrom, but I do really like Gretsch's - I got a chance to play a big hollow bodied white one a GC when I was in Miami, and it's the closest any humbucker guitar has come to getting the clarity and treble I'm used to in single coils. Very defined and definitely a rawker.

Thinking about it, I don't much like the flat bottomed Ibanez wizard necks. I prefer a rounder profile (like on the kramer, oddly enough...)
