Re: Kramer Question
Hey, had some more time to play, and I've got a question:
How do you raise the height of the saddles? The A and the B strings need to be raised just a hair, because I can't fret any notes above the 12th fret on either string. The notes also fret out on the high E string on anything above a 1 step bend, so I'll need to do some minor tweaking to get the action just right...
Ok, now on to some more impressions:
Firstly, what's the radius on these bad boys? The fretboard is nearly flat, I can barely detect any curvature at all. However, this doesn't seem to affect playability. In fact, I've got to agree with gr8 scott and say this is the best playing guitar I own as well. It may also be the best playing guitar I've laid my hands on, which is really impressive considering that the neck is fatter than on my highway 1 strat.
Amplified, the more I play it, the more I like the way it sounds! I keep surprising myself when I play this thing too - it just plays absolutely effortlessly. I opened up the back to look at the floyd, and it only has 2 springs, so I may install another and adjust the truss once I get my hands on some more .11's. On a side note, I also finally got a brass telecaster saddle installed on my project jazzmaster on the high E and B strings, and I busted a string by accident, so I'm going to pick up a few sets tomorrow anyway.
I've actually thought about throwing a PGb in it, seeing as I have a chrome covered one lying around, and I think I'd like the look. I love the way the PGb sounds too, but it may end up being too vintage for this shred machine. Although, for the time being, I'm keeping it stock while I get some adjustments done.
The fret wear is pretty minimal considering it's a 25-ish year old instrument, there's still plenty of metal left should I decide to get it crowned. Intonation might be the best of all my guitars, I can play fretted chords with open notes anywhere on the neck without a hint of dissonance or any such nonsense. Once I get it to where all the notes sound out loud and true above the 12th fret, this is absolutely going to slay.
Thanks again for all the advice you guys, I'm glad to say I'm a kramer convert! Although, this came up in another thread, and I think I have a problem... I like too many guitars! Most of the people I know who love fenders hate gibsons, and most of the people who do like both of those dislike so called 'shredder' guitars. I like all of them! Its getting to the point where I can walk into a guitar center and be equally happy playing almost any guitar in the store... Is something wrong with me? I feel like there must be at least one style of guitar that I'll dislike...
