Krank Amps

El Dunco

Sock Supplier to RHCP
Does anyone hear use/like them? Apparently they are really unpopular due to all the fake reviews they put on Harmony Central and they don't very good. Most people down here would be too embarrassed to try one purely because of the bad rep they get. I have heard next to nothing about them on these forums. Is it only a particular model of Krank that is bad or is the whole company just evil? I tried a revolution and I quite liked it...

Tell me a bit about these. Michael Amott sounded pretty good at his guitar clinic and the concert after it last year through a Krank Krankenstien (it was actually borrowed from a music store and my friend had it on lay-by, so it wasn't modded in any way... Michael seemed to appreciate it :P)

Yeah anyway... Go ahead:

Re: Krank Amps

If you are into that post-messa gain and post nu-metal metal, it could be it for you.

Re: Krank Amps

I've tried both the Revolution and krankenstein and came to hate their sound. they sound so extremely solid-state like and really unnatural. They don't have the feel of a real tube amp and their tone is nothing to write home about, very bland imo.
If they'd cost half of what they go for they might be good deals but for their prices i can go Engl and anihilate any krank out there.

Re: Krank Amps

Loserchief, do you work for engl? you really pimp their stuff around here. :)

no,but i got a free factory tour since their factory is about 2 hours away from my place(Diezel would be even closer but i can't afford their amps), got to meet Horst Langer and Hartmut Engl(great people) and just love Engl tone. Nice people with great amps, why not promote them a little ;)
And i think i'm the greatest Engl-whore around here XD

Re: Krank Amps

If i had a fireball i'd probably keep it myself. I came to like the FB more than the Powerball i had until recently.

Re: Krank Amps

any more experience with these amps? Maybe something that doesn't involve judging an entire genre that spans so far by one bunch of wannabes.

I don't want to hear about alternative nu-core or whatever. Is it a good amp or not? Why? Why not? Worth looking into?

etc.

Re: Krank Amps

People rag on them, but I still really dig 'em for what they do. Super tight, way aggressive sounds... great for blending, if nothing else.

People try them with **** cabs - the stock cabs. Run that thing through a Mesa 4x12 and it'll crush!

Some great sounding albums done with a Krank:

Cradle of Filth - Thornography
Arch Enemy - Live Armageddon
As I Lay Dying - Shadows are Security
36 Crazyfists - Rest Inside the Flames

The latest DÅÅTH and Chimaira were 1/2 Krank, and both sound great, as well.

That all said... I think they're overpriced. I'd rather have a 5150, JSX, or 2ch Recto, all of which can be had for less.

Re: Krank Amps

ah yes.. good one Jeff. I tried a crate amp in one music store and it was very muddy. I decided to give it another chance in a music store that had the option of running it into a Celestion equipped cab. Sounded so much better.

i agree with this too. i like krank amps for metal. i think they sound cool with their bold crunch. i certainly don't think they sound like solid state in the least. as for the price, i'd like to see them come down about $800 or so. for the kind of money they cost, i'd prefer a mesa or engl perhaps

Re: Krank Amps

some kids here got sponsored by krank, then they broke up after getting four heads and cabs. i wasnt impressed, but i doubt thry set them up right.

Re: Krank Amps

I don't know why the Rev Jr. isn't taking over the hobbyist market. A 20-watt high-gain tube amp head sounds like a dream-come-true for the play-at-home or jam-with-friends metalhead. I'm not totally into high-gain, but I would at least like to try one out.

Re: Krank Amps

From what I've heard in a live setting they sound **** fine to me. I don't know why they'd get a bad wrap. They're a high gain tube amp that sounds good to me when pushed. I don't know about lower volumes, but they haven't sounded solid state to my ears. If you don't like high gain amps, well you're not gonna like the revolution.

My two favorite bands use Kranks for touring and when I've seen them play they both sound good. I don't know what cabs they were using, but I know the heads sounded fine. I'm not in any hurry to go out and buy one (as I already have a good head), but I've got nothing bad to say about them either.

I'd be in the market for one. Sounds like a sweet deal to me. I'd probably like it much better than a Epi valve junior as then I wouldn't have to buy a pedal to go along with it.
