KT-77 tubes?

As a EL-34 variant, how do they generally compare to regular EL-34's, E34L's, and 6CA7's? Don't see to much info on KT-77's on here.

For my Laney AOR-50 series II, I've narrowed down my options to either JJ E34L's, JJ KT-77's, or Electro Harmonix 6CA7's.

I'm looking to escape the brittle and flabby sound of the Sovtek WXT's currently in the Laney. I'd like to tighten/fatten/smooth things up a bit, if possible.

Re: KT-77 tubes?

EL34L's: Smooth top end, alot fo fire and punch in the mids & alot tighter low end than most EL34's

KT77's: Similar tone with slightly more lows and a glassier top end. The mids seem to be a bit crunchier but in a pleasing way. Kind of like a slightly more hi-fi version of the EL34L

I use KT77's in my marshalls and Splawn heads but for some reason I like the EL34L's in my Bogner

Brewtone got it right. If you want rawer sounding tone, go with EL34. If you want a little bit bottom range, go with EL34L. If you want deeper bass with EL34 flavor, go with KT77.

I personally like KT77 for distortion only. The clean is a bit bland in comparison to EL34 tubes. It's not as chimey/glassy.

I run a stereo power amp with KT77 on one channel and EL34L on the other.

Re: KT-77 tubes?

That's the way I read the KT-77 so far Hames, a stronger top and bottom end than the E34L. It should have quite a bit more of each when compared to the EL34. Now, it would be interesting to hear the difference between a 6L6 and the KT-77.

I plan on to do some E34L and KT-77 testing on my AOR50 at some time.

Psst...there is no EL34L. It could be one of 2 tubes when typed that way.
