A name so common it's got it's own pickup. Why not the John Special, or Michael Special or Tom Special? :laugh2:

Erik....How about "The tweaked out John's Special" :laugh2:

nope, steve's special = steve blucher
AFAIK he's a legato player and with that design he wanted to prevent notes in fast legato lines being washed together.

Yes, dimarzio has THEE best customer service i have ever actually experienced. I havent dealt with duncan so thats not to say there's could be as good/better

Over here support and distribution for Seymour Duncan is handled by Aria UK who are a really nice friendly company to deal with.

Re: Kudos To One Of The Dimarzio Techs

I have had great experiences

I have even had emails answered on HOLIDAYS ie Christmas

4 years and still happy with them

Re: Kudos To One Of The Dimarzio Techs

Yup, the couple of times I've contacted them, they got back to me in about 10 minutes, with thorough and informational responses, and offering suggestions about trying something I may have not thought of to get what I was looking for.

Good folks.

Re: Kudos To One Of The Dimarzio Techs

Every time I've talked directly with Dimarzio company on the phone, in one case ten years apart, I got a female with a New Jersey accent. I could just imagine Marisa Tomae (Sp?) on the other end. Very friendly lady too. Never talked to Steve Blucher that I know of.

Steve Blucher is one of the important designers in electric guitar technology, and the aftermarket pickup industry, like Bill Lawrence, or Seymour Duncan. He worked with Allan Holdsworth when Holdsworth first came to the states. A lot of early Holdsworth fusion tone is in part a custom Steve Blucher designed pickup. I have heard that he and Mr Paul Reed Smith go way back too.

+1

I've called them countless times and they've been nothing short of great to speak to.

Re: Kudos To One Of The Dimarzio Techs

Glad this ended up being a nice positive discussion, even though it's another company and not the Duncan company, but I have the exact same experiences with the folks at the Duncan company and this forum...

the pup was made for john petrucci of dream theater
john complained that he needed way less mids than the tone zone had with his mesa amp
the SS pup is made for midrange heavy amps

as far as dimarzio i love them, they have the best tech support around
like the original poster of this thread already stated they go out of thier way to help you find you tone
i cant say that about duncan at all
i emailed them several times and even called
they never answered my emails and when i called i was put on hold for 20 minutes on my dime!:yell:

i know a lot of guys rag on thier pups but i think they are the best out there
they have a pup for any tone problem, you need less mids but a big output? they have a model for that.
you need boosted bass and mids but a more vintage output? they have one for that too and so on and so forth.
i am not ashamed to say i am a dimarzio fan they are much more innovative than other pup makers

dimarzio has a toll free number and always answers emails :smokin:
