I don't post a whole of of review stuff when I try things out, but this one I have to post.......EVH Replica guitar
I got to play one for a bit, great collector item. It is really interesting to see it in person and see just how flawlessly this this is beat up. Its not my kind of thing (replicas and relicing), but I have to say that....
This is the best sounding guitar I have ever heard in my hands! It is THE Rock sound!
After playing it a while, the guitar isn't so special (regarding tone). A Fender Start Deluxe (maple board) sounds about the same side by side unplugged. That pup?, yeah it is magical. I have never tried the '78 model yet, but if it is anything like the pup in the replica, I must call MJ soon.
The action is a little higher than what I would play, but not horrible by any means. The sound is so strange...there is low end (plenty), but not muddy. The mids are prominent, but not overpowering. The high end is crisp, twangy, and bright, but never thin or plinky. It is the the most balanced, articulate, warm and perfect sound I have ever heard out of a pickup (no matter what I plugged it into). It has the perfect amount of output to roll the volume back for cleaner things and still be hot and heavy.
This all coming from the perspective of a 20 year metal/rock player who has a few standards (Strat, PRS, Parker, Jackson, Recto tones (Road King II), and Marshall tones (Stiletto II), and jangly tones ala Fender (Mesa F-30). This wasn't typed for bragging rights, I like my stuff, but I have decent exposure and some familiarity with a handful of tones.
The EVH Franky's magic is all in the electronics. I guess Seymour has making magic for a long time!
