Lace Alumatones

I know this is a Seymour Duncan sponsered site, but has anyone tried the Lace alumatone pickups? I have a set of single coils, they're pretty cool. Haven't tried the humbuckers or the P-90's. I was just curious.

Re: Lace Alumatones

I guess nobody here's really tried these pickups.

Just so you know, it's totally fine to talk about brands other than Duncans. People do it all the time. That's what's so cool about this forum.

Re: Lace Alumatones

I've got a humbucker sized Alumitone in my PRS at the moment. The luthier I recently had refret my Les Paul loaned it to me to try out. It's a unique design to say the least and I was surprised how full and powerful it is. That being said it's missing something, I can't quite put my finger on it. The bass is thin and "strat single coil like" while the mids are less harsh than the JB I took out. The highs sound good. Overall its cool and unique and sounds pretty good but not really for hard rock/metal. I think it would be great for jazz. Honestly though, Its hard for me to accept something so far outside of the box! I'd bet I'd like it in the neck or middle position. I'll be removing it soon to try an SH-5Custom I bought a few weeks ago from a forum bro........I love my PRS but havent found the right pickup for it yet!
