Lace Sensor Dually Help?

I want to wire a Lace Sensor Dually in an LP Junior style guitar and have the pickup wired like a Jazz Bass. North coil will go to one volume pot and then the South coil will go to another volume pot. Would I wire the orange wires to their respective pots then the other wires go to ground?

Re: Lace Sensor Dually Help?

Lace Sensor colour code is :
- orange to hot
- green and white to ground
And the Dually has a 4th cable...

Re: Lace Sensor Dually Help?

each coil has an orange, white, and green wire. greens go to ground
the rest go orange from 1 coil to switch, white from that coil to orange of the other, and white from 2nd coil to ground

Re: Lace Sensor Dually Help?

I need help to wire it as two single coils to two volumenpots not humbucker to volume pot if that makes sense. I tried to wire it jazz bass wiring where Orange went to their perspective volume pots but for some reason the coil nearest the neck did not make a sound. Either I burned up the pot as I’ve made several mods using the pot or my wiring is incorrect or both. I followed the standard jazz bass wiring as I’ve done in the past located on this website but this time the coil nearest the neck didn’t work. I may try just one volume and an LP toggle to do north coil, parallel and south coil switching and if that doesn’t work I’ll just do the on/on/on switch wiring diagram supplied by Lace to north coil, series and south coil switching. I just thought it would have been better for my purposes to get some cool blending options for recording purposes.

Re: Lace Sensor Dually Help?

Coolest thing about LACE pickups are if you have an issue -call them -Jeff Lace will probably answer the phone.

I wouldn't bog him down with basic stuff you can get if you read or research, but they will help you.

Re: Lace Sensor Dually Help?

I messaged them through their website. Is it possible with a Seymour Duncan with a 4 wire to operate it as two separate single coils with switching operation from an LP toggle for north coil, parallel and south coil operations?

Sure you can -all the SD pickups I've used make available North and South wired of both coils

Re: Lace Sensor Dually Help?

Thanks for the reply. I’m wondering if I just had a bad connection, bad pot or what. I checked that all my wires and everything were going to the right locations. I’ll try doing a threeway toggle and single volume next and see if that works. I think in a live situation it’d be more practical for quick switching vs turning one volume pot up and then another one down to isolate a coil. I miss my Squier Strat with Cool Rails wired like a jazz bass though. Pretty cool blending options.

Have you considered adding a separate small 3 way toggle and preserving the original for it's intended pickup selection? or is that what you were planning?

Re: Lace Sensor Dually Help?

I really just wanted a pickup that would be wired as two separate single coils as the pickup’s total resistance I measured was about 27k. I suppose I could wire it with a push/pull to go between series and parallel but I’d still like to be able to switch between north coil and south coil since the dually pickup is essentially two standard Lace single coils.

Re: Lace Sensor Dually Help?

Can a Lace Sensor single coil would work well together with a Seymour Duncan Strat pickup ?

I will try that this week : Lace Purple + SSL-5 in serie.

But I don't know yet.

Re: Lace Sensor Dually Help?

So, I wired the Dually in a couple ways in a cheap Epi LP Jr I got for less than $50. The Dually sounds bad in series. It sounds pretty good in parallel and in single modes but I think for an LP Jr I'd rather have more of a P90 sound or Humbucker sound so I'm going to be installing a the Hammer Claws pickup in this guitar. I moved the Lace Dually into my Mustang that I converted into a Basitar tuned to open A (A E A). I'll post a pic in a bit. The string gauges are 80, 60 and 44. I can comfortably tune it down to open F# as well. I have it wired as a spin a split so you can dial in how much series/single coil you want. It can get pretty bass sounding with in the series side of the spin a split. Also, I moved the Mustang bridge back a little to help with intonation and to get the strings through the saddles without getting caught on the saddle screws. I think I'd be best served with a tele bridge. I tried moving the bridge a bit back and putting a strat neck on the guitar but went back to the stock neck so that is why I have extra holes. These Mustang Bullet are dirt cheap used and the tuners seem to hold up just fine for now. I changed the nut to Graphtech. My Mustang arrived damaged in shipping so I got even more of a discount from GC.

I'll be covering the neck pickup hole with a sticker or something. I put aluminum tape to shield the cavity and then a piece of duct tape above it after I took this picture.

How did this go? I would like to know what is the polarity of a normal Lace Sensor to put it in series with others as well. I can't find the info anywhere, probably because they are pretty quiet so hum is not really an issue.
